TOPIC: More floor tiles!

More floor tiles! 6 Months, 1 Week ago
My set arrived today (3 sets + add-ons + dungeon dressing + CoS). First off, the quality is impeccable. The sturdiness of the pieces and the quality of the paint jobs (yes, mine are painted) far exceeded my expectations. Secondly, yes, the box was HEAVY and packed VERY well. Kudos.

Really my only complaint (and it is really my own damn fault) is needing more floor pieces. The floor pack just sounded so boring! Now I wish I could order one IMMEDIATELY. Can I? Please? Pretty please?

Thanks for the report! I've heard similar stories about the floor pieces. Needing more of them seem to be a common comment. If you have taken (or plan to take) any pictures of your haul, I'd love to see them!

I'm in the same boat I didn't have any extra money for add-ons just the 10 sets I wanted, but luckily one of the only 2 sets of DF I have was the one with 2-3 of the 6x6 floor tiles. Although I'm sure that still won't be enough lol

Making larger open areas has always been a focus for me. I started collecting DF last spring (right before the Kick Starter) and ended up buying 20 Ice Cavern floor pieces because nothing else was in stock. Yes, it doesn't match at all when I build big rooms but my group just looks past it.

(Peep this link to see a build I made using variable floor pieces to get a sense of what I've been working with)

When I jumped on to the Kick Starter I IMMEDIATELY realized the value of the floor pack and grabbed 2 of them...but I can certainly understand new customers making the mistake of not recognizing the power of a boring looking 4x6 piece.

I was only able to squeeze 3 sets into the budget, but I did add a pack of floor tiles, a pack of dungeon dressings, and a pack of diagonal walls.

I could tell the floor tiles were not sexy, but that they would be very helpful in building larger rooms, and also simply faster.

Secondly the floor pack will be very helpful in building multi-level encounters!

I look forward to putting mine to good use.

Added 2 sets, and I'm glad I did.

Part of the reason I bought WA1 and WA2 is *because* of those floor pieces.

It may be a "boring" piece, but those help SO much in the grand scale of things if you are looking to cover large areas.

Yeah, I got a floors pack and a stairs pack solely to build multi-level. Not sure if I will need another floor pack, but it is a strong possibility.

At the moment leaning towards a floor and a castle walls pack.

I ended up getting 1 floor pack and two unpainted CoS's since CoS game with some interesting floor pieces (gates/pools) and 7 additional floor pieces.

While not a perfect solution, ebay is awash with imitation kits, some plaster pieces, some resin etc. Floor pieces are hugely important with Dwarven Forge stuff. However, it's also the easiest to replicate without ruining the look of your dungeon.

Another option is to make your own, out of a different material. I have some cork tiles, I may have a buddy of mine laser-cut some stonework into MDF, and create a few simple floor pieces.

There are some solutions. Failing that, just wait until something becomes available from DF.

This thread was highlighted in the KS comments:

It cannot be said enough: you need floors. You need more than you think you need. It can sometimes be seen as a "boring" add-on pack, but it is too easy to underestimate the need for floors.

Floors are indeed quite valuable. However, as mentioned above they're the easiest to replicate or "fudge" so to speak. While I own enough resin kits and game tiles to stack from floor to ceiling, I am always short on large floor pieces. I may even consider having my buddy use his laser-cutter to make me a number of MDF dungeon tiles cut out with proper textures in various sizes just to fill in the floor spaces. Maybe use various material to make sure the heigh/shape matches etc.

Like the other poster above I considered picking up a bunch of ice cavern tiles and repainting them. Lots of options, you can buy heaps of plaster cast ones on ebay etc.

Don't fret, but yes...floors, floors, and more floors (my current dungeons are awash in too many corridors!)
