TOPIC: So they won't break -- will they warp?

So they won't break -- will they warp? 10 Months, 1 Week ago
I am very confident that the Dwarvenite pieces are not going to break -- I showed my son the video of the "durability tests" and he loved it. I just had to remind him that we can't do those things with the Master Maze we have NOW. ;)

But I am a little worried about warping. I don't have a ton of space, and so sadly -- VERY sadly -- much of what I have has to be in storage for long stretches of time. I can't keep everything out at once, and sometimes I can't keep it out at all. That means I'm gonna have boxes of this stuff sitting around. Sometimes it will be in the storage unit, which is air conditioned, but I am wondering about leaving things temporarily in my non-A/C garage unit. Or having them stay in the trunk of my car for a day or two.

If I've got all these GT pieces sitting on top of each other in a box in the hot sun (or even in the A/C storage unit), are they gonna warp? Am I going to have walls that lean too far back from the floor? I'm a little concerned about that. Breakage is only an issue if you drop the box or move it too roughly -- at least I can be confident that while the boxes are just sitting around, my DF pieces are safe as houses. Any thought about how Dwarvenite will fare?

Unless you put them somewhere insanely hot, like in excess of 150 degrees, it should be okay. I store all of my stuff in the garage gameroom and in the summer we are always over 100 degrees for days at a time. A lot of my resin sets and Games Workshop fortress are right next to the garage door in the full heat. I have not had any problem with the GW stuff or resin sets. Or my Grendel pieces either.
I trust Stefan and Jeff will have made Dwarvenite fairly heat resistant.

Good question, all I can say is that i literally threw them into my luggage when heading to Gary Con haphazardly and they survived the cab ride in the trunk of a taxi, 1 hr, then a flight that was several hours, then more driving before i opened the luggage and poured them out...
I would not purposely put something heavy on them for weeks at a time so they become distorted...i have no idea if they wuld snap back or what that would do so i don't recommend it...i would still "try" to take care of them somewhat...they do not need styrofoam packing...but don't try to destroy them or i imagine you will probably succeed...they can survive "reasonable" wear and tear...If you left them under the wheels of Jeff's truck in the summer for a week...well...not sure....

Is the melting temperture for the Dwarvenite material a trade secret?

Hahaha... well I certainly don't intend to go out of my way to hurt them!

I am mainly just wondering about ordinary storage conditions. If I toss a bunch of these in a bin and leave them in my garage in the Florida heat for months at a time -- what's gonna happen?

If a wall piece at the bottom is at a funky angle and there's stuff leaning on it and in the heat for four or five months.... what result?

I collect toys, too, and I try to be as careful as I can in how I put them in their bins and store them. Every now and then, you retrieve something from storage and discover that, from thew way the contents of the bin were lying on each other, they've warped a little bit.

Honestly, we have not had that mush time to test them in that way....i would try to avoid them being in an un standard shape for long periods of time though, just in case....I throw mine into a box for weeks at a time and they so far seem fine when I pour them out to use... but i don't have an extraordinary amount in there so i suspect they are mostly not being bent into warped positions, but merely sitting on top of one another in the usual shapes....the best method seems to be to have a few bins so they are not so heavy on the bottom pieces...also, too many in one bin would make them REALLY heavy to lug around...If you pack them together tight you get the added bonus of fitting them into a smaller space though, so i would recommend that mostly even if i don't do it:) That would take a few more minutes of time....lol...

I would also point out that heat makes things expand. Therefore, if you have your tiles in a bin, packed very tightly, with no room to give, and then they later heat up quite a bit, they could push in on each other and warp. So, in line with what Stefan is saying, don't pack tiles too tightly or haphazardly if they are going to be stored in a very hot place.

I thought that had more to do with a plastic insert in the 4x6 floor than with the Dwarvenite itself...
