Sales have been great for the Sci-Fi sets. In fact, we are out of stock on the Passage Sets, and we are getting close on the Starter Set. We are getting a restock in October -- along with the new Alpha Expansion set.

Thanks for your interest.

So, no sci-fi sets for sale at GenCon, eh?

I guess that helps me decide whether to get more sci-fi or another cavern set. :D

Speaking of Which A Cavern Conversion Piece for the Sci-Fi Set would be Quite Handy... Sorta Like the Dungeon Conversion now, but with the Metal Corridor or a Bulk Head or some Such...

I was thinking about just putting a sci-fi corrridor piece againt a cavern passage with a door between them. But with the smaller sets, maybe we'll start seeing more special purpose sets like that.

It would be Kewl... I Kinda' got the impression that our Heroes at DF will not be releasing Pieces individually from Existing Sets any more (Because of Cost Issues), but they did not say that they would not release "Special" individual Pieces... Which this would be I guess, since it would belong to neither set... Or maybe after they Launch some of the New Lines Next Year they could release a "Conversion" Set that would be pieces that transitioned between the Different Lines... Caverns to Sci-Fi, Sci-Fi to Modern, Modern to Caverns Etc...

Oh, my head is spinning.... ooooohhhh..

I would LOVE to see some great cavern/computer combo pieces (for some reason, I can only picture cheesy 60's sci-fi TV like Twilight Zone and the original Star Trek -- DF would have to make the cavern pieces look a lot more like crumpled tin foil!)

But we don't really have to wait -- I really want to mix the caverns and the sci-fi pieces now! I am not so sure I'd love the idea of combining the dungeon and sci-fi pieces, though now that I think about it, I suppose some cool scenes might spring to mind.

But a cavern with a sci-fi complex inside makes so much sense! Underground HQ of the Evil B.A.D.G.U.Y.S.! Oh the mind reels.... The image of cavernous rock suddenly coming up against the wires and vents of the sci-fi pieces... oooh

I'm thinking mainly of the so-called "future" envisioned in the 60's, but it could fit into the fantasy realm, too. Wasn't there a D&D series of mods about the drow that culminated in a spider-shaped spaceship? THAT would throw your players off! Deeper and deeper into the dungeon and suddenly they're in a military compound from the future! HA!

Oh, I have to get started on this...

Retro-futurism rules!

"By 1985, we will drive flying cars and eat protein pills served to us by robots at the end of our two hour workday!"

That being said, I hope DF decides to release some sleeker pieces which are more Star Wars or Star Trek in feel. The current sci-fi sets (which I love, BTW) are pretty industrial-looking. I'd like to see sets with more variety, the same way I'd like to see variant walls for the fantasy sets.

So Stefan, if you're reading, get to work and I'll get a second job to buy it all. :)

L,

Yes I Think the 60's Sci-Fi (Or Camp Era), Shows Like Batman, Green Lantern And Yes ...<Sigh>... Even my Beloved Trek... Did have some Hyper Cheesey "Caverns"... But There is precedent for vaguely less Cheesey 70's and 80's Caverns... Various Bond Flicks, Battle Star Galactica... And Even ST:TNG... So The 'Breathern of Apocalyptic Destruction' (B.A.D.), and the 'Gentlemen of Ugly Yearnings and Scemes' (G.U.Y.S.) could Certainly Join Forces in Some Very Nifty Cavernous/ Sci-Fi Environs...

Yukon,

Indeed, Some "Specialized" Wall or Floor Pieces I Think would be Awsome for any Series of DF Stuff... Unfortunatley some things are so Kewl/ Yet Specific like the Mermaid Fountain that people do Start to Say things Like "Wow we Found the Mermaid Statue again... Were all of these Dungeons Built by the Same Dwarven Contractors?"... So I Would Hope that Future Sci-Fi Nifties might be Subtley More Generic... Like Banks of Computers, or Functionally-Non-Specific Machinery etc... Or Perhaps the answer would be "Theme Packs" in the $50.00 range that could represent a Small assortment of Different but Still Sci-Fi Walls, that could be purchased in Smaller Numbers for Rooms that need to be set appart... Or those that wanted a Bunch of Different Areas could buy Several... Either way I Think a "Kewl" Accessory Pack would be Walls and Objects that Would Fit seamlessly with the Existing Sets, but that Could represent "Spaceship" Kinds of ideas... Such as View Screens, Alternate Air-lock sorta' hatchways, Rung Ladders on A Wall, Vents and Ductwork Sections Etc...

Well, you may not know this, but in my head, I work for Dwarven Forge. So, the next release I have planned, in my head, is an expansion set with walls that have stuff on them. Here's a quick rundown of the pieces:

Corner wall with pipes and stuff
Straight wall with pipes
Straight wall (6") with Viewscreen
Straight wall with workstation
Corner wall with workstation
Angled wall with workstation
Straight wall with ladder
Straight wall with blaster damage
Rounded corner wall
Straight wall with raised equipment panels

Of course, Dwarven Forge is only making them in my head, so only I get to play with them. :)

Yukon,

Well then Thank the Tree that DF Has Hired You and Your Visionary Next Set!!! (Even if it is an imaginary World in which you work for the DF Powers, I like the Idea of those Pieces)...

Yeah. In my head DF is putting out the Coliseum set as well.

Why is the world in my head always so much better than the real one?

The Little Red Hat Your Avatar Wears? I am Sure that it Cancels the Bad Alien Signals, but have you Considered that a Pressure release Valve might Keep all the Gooey Stuff from Collecting? Because in Quntity THAT can Keep out the Good Alien Signals Too...<Smirk>...
