TOPIC: Catacombs Expansion Set

Re:Catacombs Expansion Set 1 Year, 6 Months ago
One of the things that struck me most about churches in England was the grave markers that were built into the floors. So I'd love to see some floors that are inlaid with markers, symbols, imagery, and so on. But keep them flush, so they play the same way as regular floors. Could add a lot of variety to the rooms.

Oh, that and statuary. I'm amazed there's not more statuary in the DF line. My dream piece is a statue that's inset into a wall, with a corresponding miniature for when the statue turns out to be a golem, along with a replacement piece that shows the indentation in the wall that it emerged from. I can dream...

Yet another good argument for miniatures of one character in multiple poses, and a good Empty Alcove piece in a Catacombs Expansion.

How about a Catacombs walls set, with a load of short and long straights, short and long curved walls and some L shaped wall sections. There might be a couple of special pieces like double sized archways/doors piece and a double size (2 by 2) pillar piece?

The advantage of a set like this is that it, as well as appealing to people who will already own the original catacombs set, it would appeal to people who just want to use a chessex mat or grid mat and can put these pieces down to make it more 3D?

A kind of "DF Lite" option for people who don't want lots of floor pieces (because of cost, storage or set out time speed issues)

A 4" wall (with standard floor and base) with skeletons or skulls in the first and fourth inches, and a small wall altar or icon in the center.

Better yet, a 4" arch piece with skeletons or skulls on either side of the arch, and an insert for the arch that is a good altar/icon on one side and an evil altar/icon on the other side.

This is a 4" piece that can be used three different ways. Four ways, if you decide that the altar insert is also a secret/concealed door...

Like several others:
A Door / Entrance. Stairs / Spiral etc.. A way to integrate this set to others and 'Getting IN' seems to have been rather overlooked!!
So that you can use this both as a 'Under ground' enter down a big wide stairs (they had to carry in the dead bodies after all!)
or
Walk in from a 'Graveyard' type level (for a smaller mausoleum type idea.

All the other ideas about narrow corridors etc I like.

Regarding 'Dressing Bits' - If the idea is an integrated one - into the wall / floor etc - then fine. Then it is special and has to be a DF item. (IE 'Bookcase that is actually a secret door etc)
Otherwise...
TBH - Many many many companies make coffins and bones and skeletons. Do we need more ??

I wouldn't waste DF's design time in these so much. Better that DF makes the rooms and buildings that we are still all crying out for and we get to dress them with what is already out there...

A new sarcophagus floor piece is essential, as the one in the Floors Set has the floor texture of the classic dungeon line, not the new catacombs line.

(At least) one should be a standard, intact sarcophagus.

There might be a matching but broken sarcophagus.

metaldwarf suggested putting stairs down inside a sarcophagus, instead of a body, which I think would be a great piece.

And a sarcophagus lid with candles and writing might be a spot where an adventurer left a message behind, or it might be a place where some profane ritual took place.

Just want to let you all know that I am watching...always watching...and I share in your enthusiasm about this topic. However, my activities in the world outside of my alchemist's lab/studio are being monitored, very closely, by a desk-lamp (this is no ordinary desk-lamp but one that has come under an enchantment...a spy of some sort). I suspect Zaltar has had a hand in this mischief.

So I am unable to comment on this "so called" catacombs expansion set...for fear of punishment...perhaps imprisonment under a nasty spell.

So I think I will try moving the desk-lamp to another room or bury it in the backyard...in the hopes that I will be able to free myself from it's constant gaze. Wish me luck!

I also think 1-piece (no detachable lid) Sarcophagus with a broken lid would be cool. I don't think they should have the image of a king on them, but nondescript so it could be for anyone. It should use the colors, motif, skulls etc. of the Catacombs set. There should be 2 (or more) in the set.

More than that, I would really like circular stair piece similar to the one from Wicked Additions Set 2 for this series. There should be 2 (or more) in the set so that you can create multi-level catacombs. I think should be just like the one pictured below, but in the same type of pattern, color, skulls etc. as Catacombs.

Short Passage w/ Skulls
Short Passage w/ Skeletons
No intersections or turns, just a few passages to make the party feel just a tiny bit claustrophobic.
Which we can actually simulate with a straight wall and a freestanding wall, but that gives us a narrow passage. I'd like a full-width passage -- more room for minis.

A tall gate or door. Iron bars, maybe. Or a stone or metal seal to keep the damned inside. Or multiple skeletons, holding onto each other to form a grisly lattice.

A floor piece with exposed earth. Someone or something has been digging...

Another column, this one a ring of skeletons with arms raised to hold the ceiling up.

A floor piece with a circular hole (all the way through) lined with stonework. We can make it a pool, or a shaft, or stairs going down, or a charnel pit, or a hellmouth, or anything else with the right printed image under it.

So guys.....

How is the set selling? Do you think there'll be enough interest in a catacombs II to make it worthwhile DF making a second boxed set?

Any hints....

Please....

The Catacomb Set is a smashing success! And yes, Casey and Sandra Garrity are working on the sculptures for Catacomb 2 Set right now...the sculptures are mostly done in fact...at this point, we may be looking at a possible Catacomb 3 Set which may be heavily leaning towards accessories and stuff to stock the catacombs with...

Catacomb 2 will probably be done for release in November...
