Shelving Storage Option for Dwarven Forge & houses 1 Year ago
Another poster (Blowizard) had the great idea of showing how to store Dwarven Forge. I thought I would give all our new gamers another option by showing how I'm storing my DF. Both closets are 8' tall X 6' wide X 2' deep.

The important design goal for my game room is that nothing modern is showing when you enter the room. So, I had to figure out the most efficient way to store my items and also have easy access to finding specific items.

NOTE: The forum messed up the order of my pictures. You're looking at TWO different closets. One holds all my DF sets (about 100) and the other closets holds all my miniatures (about 3,500), houses, and dragons.
CLOSET 1: This holds all my DF sets and Castle Keep by Miniature Building Authority.

CLOSET 2: This holds all my miniatures (about 3,500) categorized by alphabet and some by type.

CLOSET 1: This shows how I store all DF pieces by type of piece NOT by the style of the set. I've found it's much faster to build a dungeon because I can pick out a piece due to they're all stored by; EX: flat wall, corner, floor, etc.

CLOSET 2: Ah, Uh, I couldn't help myself. I had to show you some of my numerous dragons on the top shelf of my closet.

CLOSET 1: Another example of how I store my DF sets FIRST by the type of the piece and then SECOND by style of the set.

CLOSET 2: ahh, well, I have an addiction of dragons!

CLOSET 1: You can see here I like to store very frequently used items at shoulder height and in the middle of the shelves for easy access.

CLOSET 2: Here is an example of my Miniature Building Authority houses that are stored below my miniatures.

Nice!

You have a lot of great toys. Your storing system really suits your purpose: being hidden behind a curtain so that it remains invisible in your beautiful medieval-themed game room. Am I right to guess that the shelves are installed within a former wardrobe? A flat file cabinet could probably be fitting in there but you would probably have a hard time to find one with the proper width and length.

@Blowizard

Actually I took the custom shelving out and bought wood planks and very durable shelving brackets. I had a time finding 20" long brackets. I also wanted adjustable shelving to adjust the shelves, so they were just above the height of the bins.

I like your idea but am trying to use every inch of both closet's space. It's the only areas I have to store items in my room and keep them out of site.
