TOPIC: Fix the "Out of Stock" issue

Fix the "Out of Stock" issue 1 Year ago
DF is probably living its golden age and I'm glad to witness it!

A tremendous number of new users come to see what wonderful products are being offered here and DF should capitalize on this. Every time I see someone complaining about the items being "Out of Stock", I keep reassuring them that it is a temporary issue that gets resolved twice per year (next one this summer) and that you can subscribe to be notified by email once the product is back in stock. Nevertheless, I would say that too many people just do not read the forum, click the "back" button of their browser and forget all about it, DF losing a lot of patronage! In my mind, the "Out of Stock" notification should be directly replaced with something like: "Next restock this coming July, click here to be reminded by email once in stock".

Wise words. A good simple easy change that communicates better to people 'browsing' who have not yet committed.

@Biowizard

FYI. Here was suggestion I posted in another forum here on DF;

Stefan,
I really hate to see you miss an opportunity to get some sales from new Kickstarter customers wanting to buy sets here on DF. Is it possible to offer these sets for sale but with the caveat of a later shipping date? You've stated you have the cash now and it's just a matter of getting them made. I'm just trying to be helpful and grow the terrain line I love SO much!

NEW part of an idea though I'm posting here is;

All these new customer on the Kickstarter are waiting till October for their new sets, so they probably won't mind waiting till August/September for Master Maze Sets, so post the estimated arrival dates (October?) now on the website and open it up for orders! Does this idea have any merit or is it not very viable?

This is an excellent idea. I am sure newbs are discouraged with the "out of stock" banners. How could they not when even we are? Stefan and Jeff, please take Biowizard's advice and change the banner from out of stock to "in stock in July" or whenever the restock is supposed to hit.

Monkplayer also has a good idea, just not sure how workable that is from the business end. But at least take Bio's and run with it.

Stefan and Jeff,
What do you think of my idea? Is there any way this could work? Maybe promising the new out of stock sets by October would be a safe time even considering delays in shipping and manufacturing?

My reasoning for posting this idea is solely wanting to help you prosper as much as possible by securing as many new DF fans as possible.

I've asked for it before as well, as it would be nice, but given the amount of new customers likely coming to the Website because of the KS, this is me throwing my +1 into the ring.

I am a long time buyer and user, and I too would like to see the ability to "pre" order, like we do at Gen Con or like with the Catacombs set. Not knowing what is going to be coming nor having any idea on when I can buy it makes me start trolling ebay for used stuff, and I would MUCH rather give my money to DF, something I have been doing since 1997 at Gen COn when this guy approaced me in a dark hallway and sold me a bunch of starter sets (*Grin*) being naive I had no idea one use hooks you for life. I had to take a few years away and now I have been patiently waiting for some sets I really want and need to build my collection larger.

Hello,

As one of the "newbies" that have just found the Dwarven Forge I have to say I was very discouraged by the number of out of stock blocks I saw. It was only that MonkPlayer encouraged me to think about it and then the Kickstarter came along that I have elected to jump in to the pool so to speak.

I have to agree with the long time fans that a slight change of message would help us now people who go looking with an eye to add more to our new addiction, er um, I mean collection.

I agree. I put off the KS and buying for almost three months. I was checking the website from time to time, everything seemed to be OOS. I eventually found my way to the forum, which convinced me to order. However, I did send my husband the site to have him make a wishlist, and he was so bummed that everything he wanted was OOS, he actually said "What's the point? I don't want a product that's never going to be in stock. I don't want to have to check a site all the time, hoping to see what I wanted added."

I don't blame him and I see many other people feeling the same way. Opening up pre-orders would alleviate some of that - they would KNOW when it was coming, even if it was far off. If it works for KS, why not the resin line?

I agree. If I had not checked the forums I would never have started collecting df because of the outif stock issues.

Even if you don't want to put up an estimated restock date, adding the word "Temporarily" in front of "Out of Stock" would encourage potential customers to check again at a future date.

That's just good business.
