Wow,
Thanks for the amazingly detailed review!
It is great to know that when you sculpt or conceive of these sculptures that our collectors/gamers will be scrutinizing and observing every little detail and thinking about them and how they can be used...it is really encouraging and uplifting to me when I sculpt stuff...I am sure Casey must feel the same way...we will both be heading to Gary Con this week!
Awesome stuff....

Thanks!

Interesting that you don't like "working" pieces! I agree that they can sometimes be a headache -- but when they work, they are a ton of fun, and they pack a "wow" factor when you're showing this stuff to someone who hasn't seen it before.

Some of the moving parts that haven't worked for me:

- the original doors. They simply fell apart into two pieces too easily, making it hard to move and store them. And they were often askew a bit, making them not even properly open or close anyway.

- the traps. To be fair, they "worked" in the sense that they carried out their appointed tasks. But they were a pain to move and store because they come apart into so many pieces. It's a shame -- I can tell a lot of thought and effort and love went into these, and the idea of traps is super neat -- but it feels like these sets kinda fizzled.

- the MBS windows. I kinda want to just glue them shut -- I fear losing that little latch so much. It's a cute touch, but I would have voted for stability and no worries about losing small parts over this detail.

- the tavern bar "door" -- it's a cute touch, but, again, nothign holds it in place. Easiest just to skip it

- the MBS floor stairs with cover -- as in all of these, it's a loose, easily lost piece -- I tend to just skip it.

Some of the moving parts that have ROCKED for me:

- the doors that are completely surrounded by stone, working as one piece. They're all easy to move, they open smoothly, and they're awesome looking.

- The secret door. This one blew me away when I first saw it, and helped convince me that I NEEDED to collect this stuff. It's so cleverly hidden, such a great genre piece, and it works smoothly and effortlesly.

- the MBS secret door. Yeah, those shelves are much smaller than all the third-party shelves I use in my setups. And, sure, you can't have a whole wall of them, or if you do mix-n-match it looks odd. But it's a bookshelf that swings around as a secret door! How cool is that?!?!

- the HS2 gate -- man, opening and lowering it is FUN. And it just looks so kewl.

- the porticullis - technically, just as much of a pain to move and store as the original doors, with the gate always dropping out when I pick it up wrong. But it just looks so cool! And dropping that gate down is so much fun. :)

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. Some of the working parts of a DF setup can be the highlights, just fun little moments that bring a display to life. But I agree, sometimes it is easier to put something together, take it apart, move it, and store it, with the details sculpted on and hinted at rather than fully realized.

To me, this hellscape II adds an incredible dimension, relief and life now to the first set because it completes it perfectly with all pieces.
The entrance is spectacular.

So, with all the hub bub surrounding the kick starter release yesterday, the fact that I ordered Hellscape 2 stuff just before the weekend kinda slipped my mind. And I ordered on Friday. Today is the following Tuesday. And I got my Hellscape II stuff today! All I can say is... Holy Mother of Pearl! What a freakin amazing set of work. The gate cannot be described by mere words. I remember talking to Stefan at GenCon 2011 (not last years, but two years ago, if I remember correctly)... and he kindly showed me a drawing on a piece of paper on what they were "kicking around" at the time. This was it. Wow. Truly an amazing piece.

As for the rest of the set (the set and all the other single pieces)... its all just incredible. It seems like I say "This is the best set to date" every time I get a new set. But, hell(scape), I'll say it again... "This is the best set to date!".

I just want to say that I really love the tall elements in the hellscape 2 set. The big/tall hellscape gate and the lave plumes are amazing. I hope we keep seeing larger features such as these as purchase options in future sets. Thank you so much for this beautiful set!

Here's hoping to lava lakes, rivers and lava falls sets in the future. I'd especially love to see a double high lava falls wall and/or volcano piece as a special item to order with hellscape 3 set.

Thank you!
