Size differential between sci fi starter pieces and passages? 7 Years, 2 Months ago
Hi,
Finally got my hands on a set of Sci Fi passages and have tried to do a set up with my start sets. Just noticed that there was a size differential between the two sets. The sci fi passages pieces (corridors) seem to be wider than those of the starter set. It appears that the passages set have the walls set outside of the floor tiles, leaving the full width of the floor tile sitting against the wall, where as the start set walls are actually sitting on the floor tile, leaving a partial tile at the edge.

I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but is this problem unique to the sets I have (which I doubt), or just a particularity of the ways the sets were constructed?

If it is a design issue, how does everyone work around it? Given that when making corridors, etc, it is hard to match the width of the set ups?

THanks again for any help rendered :)

The passages, from all sets are like that, the floor in a passage is a full 2inch foot print, and the walls are set out side of that. The walls are a 1/4 inch thick. It was done on purpose i think becuase they are kind of two different types of sets. The work together but are not 100% interchangable becuase yes you will always have some 1/4-1/2 an inch off becuase the width of the wall in the passage being outside.

Tony "Griffon" of Griffon Studios on E-bay makes a set of filler bits that go inside along the outside wall to compensate for that talked about in this threadSci-Fi Furnishings.

I bought a set and like them, but i haven't seen them on e-bay in a bit. I'd most likely buy a few more if they show up again.

it's actually a common design element of ALL the DF settings that have room pieces and corridor pieces. it's mostly an issue when you're having a corridor run into the corner of a room setup and the wall mismatches at the room/corridor boundary, or if you have to use wall pieces to continue a corridor, but you can, if you have the pieces and the room, use floor tiles with the backsides of regular wall sections butted up to them to match the width of the corridors.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Shows you now new I am to the set up that I haven't really played with all my sets as of yet :)

Only really have the DoE full set and that was not enough to run into set up problems. THe Sci Fi passages is my first true mix of sets :) THanks for the tips. Just had to make sure I wasn't imagining things :)
