So there’s no hope of a factory redo so that we can get jade pillars to, you know, go with the limited edition jade encounter we bought?

NB: I don’t have any DoD in hand yet (yes, us Aussies rolled a 1 on delivery), so my opinion is based on pics alone.

The pictures of the painted jade pillars from GenCon aren't stupendously bad. Disappointing a little, but not horrible. Now I'm conflicted; I really wanted jade pillars. Do I keep imperfect pillars and paint them to hide their worst defects, or do I try to get them switched out for plain so I can paint them in marble?

Looks painted :(
I'll want to see it in person to make a final decision, but I'm not sure I can see wanting to use these pillars with my jade pieces (I got painted of everything). Time will tell though.
Agreed, i want to see in person but i have like 14 of these jade pillars coming and im not a fan of the pics so far.

The actual jade pieces look amazing on the walls and other pieces.

Taken from Stefan's FB page. From what little you can see the set does look nice just can't tell about the pillars.
The pieces actually cast in jade Dwarvenite look spectacular to my amateur mineralogist's eye. I'm glad I got the set in jade, just disappointed in the painted pillars that I ordered an extra set of because I thought I'd like the jade that much.

The jade looks nice. I am glad I did not get it. It is not the look I want.

The unpainted jade pillar is an interesting problem. I bet it will paint up well. The clear clear plastic has a lot of possibilities. I wonder how hard it would be to remove the paint. Flaming red with an LED.

How do you plain to paint the Jade? Green Wash?
There's an obvious join at the top that looks pretty ugly and limits painting possibilities. You really have to paint the entire top section opaque down to the pillar itself. I suspect the same is true for the bottom join, but the paint is thicker and it's hidden. Whatever you do, it probably won't be in Tamiya Clears or Gallery Glass.

If you don't mind the obvious difference in composition and don't plan on having a lot of light on your builds, the paint color isn't a complete loss. I could see people going along with it. I'm extra color-sensitive; it doesn't work for me as-is and I don't see anything other than an opaque paint job as working well.
