very nice Tom:)
I also use the GW fortress.
this is one of the reason -considering that we can't have 10 new set for year- I prefer that DF don't use resource and energy to make "tower sets" or things like that.

soon I will paint another fortress (from Simba..it's pratically a toys) to fit with the GW fortress, in order to obtain a big castle.

If you had a choice between GW Fortress and Miniature Building Authority Fortress pieces, which would you go with?

Mmmmh, very good question dndgamer.

I found the GW Fortress very nice, but, it's a kit that must be painted ! The weight is lighter.

Now, MBA is painted, but also more expensive. Personnaly, i'll choose MBA.

In fact, i think it depends on our portfolio lol

I'm glad I asked about going with GW or MBA Fortress especially since I don't paint! I didn't realize it was a kit that needed painting. No wonder it's far less costly.

Thanks for the feedback!

Your welcome Dnd gamer,

Just for information, ( and please if someone is not agree with me, tell it), i think that all the Game workshop's buildings are kits. I saw few weeks ago that "LAw" put in line a very nice broken tower . I think this is a GW tower. May be he can confirm my words.....

as said by Lordannilhus, are really two different solutions...
one it's cheap, easy to store (it's plastic) and not painted(you also have to glue the parts), the other it's expensive, more difficult to store, and is pre-painted.
MBA fortress it's better, because it's more modular, and if you don't have any problem of money and space, of course, buy it.

but just 2 things consider that the price is not 20% more...but probably 200% or even more, if you want a configuration similar (same dimensions and elements).
second, just a question..you don't paint because you don't want (no time, you don't like, etc) or because you are not able? because the GW fortress it's really easy to paint..the texture of the walls do all the job during the drybrush operations.

Endar,
Thanks for the feedback. I've never tried painting because I think the quality of my work will not meet my standards and I'll end up throwing away the pieces. I keep hearing about dry brushing and at one point I almost got a DVD called Hot Lead but then I heard it wasn't such a good DVD so I'm back to square one...having to pay a premium for painted figures/minis/accessories etc, etc.

I'm not rich at all and so if I could save a buck or two by doing the work myself and it coming out good, then I'd do it. Perhaps someday soon I'll take the plunge and start painting.

I have to agree, this is one of the easiest painting jobs out there. There are very few details that require anything beyond the basic grey drybrush of the whole thing. Good introduction to painting, and a nice piece.

I ended up selling off my GW Fortress, just because between it, the DF stuff, the occasional HA piece, and the Mage Knight Castle (remember that? I still have mine, and it's pretty awesome) I had to start making room somewhere, and the GW item was my least favorite.
