This was the build Georg (zoroaster100) and I set up for our weekly game.

Our party had been exploring a dungeon when we came across this cavernous gorge heading straight down into the depths of the earth. We’ve been in pursuit of a Duergar slave trader and there’s a rumored path to an Underdark city, could this be the way?

The cavern is deeeeeeeep! And to boot it’s ripped through the core of an already deep dungeon. It looks like it’s off to the Underdark… =D

During the game Shawn held a small flashlight against a Gem-Stone dice. I looked cool so I took a picture.

I tried to make a few more. The first is with a laser pointer and the second the flashlight again.

The campaign has been a blast and I can’t wait to play again Saturday!

Ok... after re-reading this makes a bit more sense... at first i thought zoroaster100 was posting, but it looked like the See through riseser invincibleoverlord started...

Its a build by one of invincibleoverlord's group, nice busy, but not too busy to be distracting.

Hey everyone, in case some of your are familiar with Dungeon's Shackled City Adventure Path and you start to recognize it, please don't give away any spoilers since we are in the middle of it and the players might all be reading these boards. Anyway, I had a blast playing this session last weekend and I'm really looking forward to next session.

Shawn's bard, Glistin, cast a dancing lights spell to illuminate futher into the cavern, which proved invaluable to the group of heroes, since they were facing a pretty dangerous goblin and worg ambush. The glowing dice represented the dancing light and actually illuminated pretty much the radius of the effect, so it was cool and useful. The vast cavern set up provided some interesting tactical situations during combat.

The previous session, the party was in the more normal "dungeon" section of the adventure, and the transition to this vast crack or natural cavern made a good transition between sessions. The bits of dungeon that seem to be floating above the cavern are on the edge of the adjacent worked stone dungeon (for this session, that other part was built on a separate table). As you can see, some of these ledges were high above the downsloped cavern floor and provided goblin rogue snipers a good advantage with their crossbows as the group faced the worg rider and other goblins.

I think the best part of the session was when the gnome rogue crossed the suspended rope bridge (the "ladder" bridge in the photos worked nicely for this), while the others waited on the other side. Just then, fog rose up from the chasm below and solidified into the bugbear vampire leader of the goblins, cutting the rogue off from the others. Then, when the warriors tried walking on the bridge to attack the bugbear, the bridge collapsed under their weight, dropping the warriors and the bugbear into the chasm. One warrior managed to grab on to the edge, but the other one (Invicibleoverlord's character) fell into the chasm alone with the vampire! It's great when you can show the different heights and distances involved. It makes it easy to visualize the danger in falling off the bridge, for instance.

And more importantly, how does he avoid those nasty shoulder spikes. Ouch!

Another great setup. I hope to learn much from you at GenCon. Got any room in your schedule for a padawan?

Oh, and by the way, Invincibleoverlord was the main architect of this build. I told him what I needed for the session, and showed him the maps, and helped him a bit with the actual building process, but it's his ingenious architectural mind that can process a 2-D map with elevation notes into a 3-D build with Dwarven Forge pieces as if by magic.

As I've said before; HE'S the genius, I'm just a good technician! Yeah, I may have improved upon his riser design, but HE created them!

'Nuff said!

See ya!

This was a lot of fun to build and a lot of fun to use in our game. Invincincible Overlord and I built it together, replicating the massive cavern mapped in the adventure I was running for the group (Drakthar's Way from Shackled City). We played the massive battle up and down the cavern with the goblin worg riders, and then the confrontation with the bugbear vampire on a rickety hanging bridge that collapsed in the middle of the fight. We all had a blast. When I first started building the cavern I though perhaps we should scale it down because it would have to be so massive, but IO said we could build it to scale, and we did even though we had to use just about every cavern piece we could find.
