Here’s an idea I’ve wanted to try for a while. I went to Lowe’s and bought two 4’ X 2’ clear Lucite sheets (the thickest they had) and had them cut them in half making four 2’ X 2’ sheets. I also bought 4 clear plastic riser-tubes used in fish tanks sold at most pet stores that sell aquarium supplies. I cut them in 8" segments to be used as legs, and super-glued them evenly to the Lucite sheets.

The risers are quite stable. Even though the tubing legs are hollow… they have a lot of vertical strength.

This is the first setup we tried. It’s actually not too high for play, at 5’11’’ just standing and the top level is easily accessible, and our game table is 4" higher than a standard height.

Here’s one of the reasons for choosing 8" as the height for the risers. DF stacked 4-high equals 8" allowing for an even transition from level to level.

Eight inches is also enough height to allow for easy hand access to stacked levels. Being 2’ square it’s only a 1’ reach to center and with the 8" height there’s plenty of room for miniature movement.

The Lucite is nice and clear allowing for descending and ascending views.

Or the view of a trapdoor that gives way to a pit of spikes 40’ bellow.

The bottom level is actually the easiest level to play when seated. You could start your dungeon crawl here by sending the party down the drainage pipe and then they would have to fight their way back to the surface. ;)

Anyway, more importantly back on the surface Old Saint Nick has arrived and is overloaded with gifts for the entire city!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE WHOLE GANG HERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA! And may all your DF wishes come true...and PEACE for all people come to this earth.

IO;

I take it back; you're a sadistic, warped, twisted genius!

Well, not really sadistic, although every TIME you come out with another BRILLIANT layout, it hurts me even more.

Next layout you publish, either screw it up somehow, or come to Baltimore for my funeral; I shall have died of envy! :P:P:P

The 2x2 lucite/riser idea is FANTASTIC!!!

I have got to ask, what inspired this? It's pure genius!

Way to go, guy.

Once again IO, you have proven you are among the elite of the elite of Dwarven Forge users.
Keep it up, and I guess we will all be meeting in Baltimore for JK's funeral.
At least, I would love to be posted there again; I would not like to be there for your funeral JK.

I will have to look into your use of Lucite IO, but I will be looking at Home Depot or Ace or somewhere like those.
I almost never shop at Lowe's; the ultimate crap they handed out against Home Depot trying to beat them in the retail market when I lived in Maryland was so rude and debased that unless I cannot find what I am looking for anywhere else, I never shop at Lowe's.
I do not even care if it might be cheaper at Lowe's; I will only shop there as a very last resort.

Additionally, I am disappointed that Gene Hackman advertises for them.
It has even made me question about supporting in any way this great character actor's career since he started doing so.

Anyway, thanks again for sharing with us your wonderful talents IO.
May you all have a Prosperous New Year!

IO,

I Really Like this Set up/Concept a lot...

I Was a Little Confused about the "Underside" of the Well, What is Holding it Up?

I Can see this Clear "Level" Idea Working for a Variety of other Ideas as Well, Including 3D Space Battles? And/Or 3D Water Environments...

Wow.

Stunned silence...

If you could hear my voice right now, you would know that i am whispering...like a monk in the presence of a rare artifact...That turned out great. Sublime. There is so much going on there on so many levels it's just awesome. It reminds me of some of the old maps I saw somewhere that showed the various levels of the dungeons in cross section. I'm really pretty awed that you actually went ahead and created it in actual 3-D.

O.K. time to send the pics to my cronnies, so they too, will be in whispered awe...

Stefan.
