You know, if you're going to all the trouble to make the accessories magnetically swappable, you should make at least one other LED option other than a torch. You've got the infrastructure, now give some cool flavor options that take advantage of it.

Maybe a glowing glyph? Or skull with glowing eyes? Or magic orb of light? Or just a simple lantern?

I like how you think, Nate. I was thinking the same thing last night... but hadn't yet taken time to think much beyond that I need some other light options... You have given me a great idea for the skull. I have a set of 40 coming in from minimonsters.eu so I'll have to try one of those. I also have this very cool skeleton arm too from one of my bits bags which I got from my local game shop. I also have some great clear tube pieces capped with leaf castings that would work great as elvish lighting.

That reminds me, here's a good tip for anyone reading this: if your game shop sells Warhammer 40K stuff and does 'bits bags' then you might be able to find some really good stuff you can use in your mods for cheap. I usually look at the fantasy line of Warhammer 40K. I have my eye on some miner Dwarves next for when the caverns sets come in November. I think I'm going to get the track set from psomminiature.com and other pieces (if they work) from ainstycastings.co.uk/

Oh, and if you have never watched the web videos of 'Tested', then do. It usually revolves around the hosts Norm Chan or Will Smith doing builds with Adam Savage from Mythbusters in his home workshop. Adam gives so many great tips that translate well for mod work, too. I was watching this episode about them modding an exclusive hero sword from Geek Chic:
youtube.com/watch?v=O1--0DLJv-8
Apparently, Geek Chic sells the swords only at Cons, and not on their website. I hope they're selling them at GenCon this year because I'm going to get one!

You keep your eye out for the bit bags...?

My favorite bit bag I bought was a bunch of undead bits. Bought it originally for the idea of using it in the pool of water from the chamber of sorrows & the idea of having half digested body in a gelatinous cube. They had arms holding swords, skulls in helmets, random bits of skellies then I found it had two full undead horses which made me squee with delight.

I've only just started to paint some of them.

Here's a prototype old copper lantern I made as another light source that can be swapped out. I want to make a couple more types of light sources. I was thinking of other medieval wall sconces and braziers.

This is great. I love the lantern. If I was having something like this made for me, it is my opinion the lantern should be eye level to the mini. I believe that would place it higher on the wall would it not?

I was waiting for someone to point that out. :-)

Yeah, where the connections are for the torch I noticed it could go a bit higher after standing a figure next to it... when I made the lantern tonight and connected it the point that it should be higher was very clear!... that's all right... that's why the whole thing is a prototype piece.

Looks like the right height for a Dwarf or Halfling, though.

Nice, guys!

I'll be making another wall with the contacts a bit higher... the second line of bricks down from the top have one that's in the middle and that's a good height too so I'll add the contacts there. I also have my forstner bits so I won't have to hack 'n slash my way through the dwarvenite.

Rather than use batteries, do you think its possible to hook them to wires and "string" them? Would probably need some kind of converter for low voltage...

Most of my electrical knowledge comes from high school physics and from osmosing things from electrical engineers when I hang out with them, but I think all you need to drop the voltage for the LED is a resistor.
