@Magniopi,

As jackattack pointed out, it's a work of Edmund Leighton. He has done a lot of other medieval type paintings. I used that picture because it's outside of copyright, in the public domain due to it's age, because I'm planning on selling them. I mention it because even if you're creating pictures for yourself and using other people's works from, say, deviant art or the internet in general, then you should always contact the artist for permission to use it. If you indicate you're using it for personal use and in what context and that you'll credit them then they're usually fine with it being reproduced. It's just the right thing to do.

Btw, for modern fantasy images you can't beat the deviantart site and the artist usually lets you know if you can use their work for personal use and if you just need to attribute them or not which is the usual requirement.

The picture frames I got from ebay: www.ebay.com/bhp/miniature-picture-frames

@Everyone,

Thanks for the compliments!

When I was done this prototype and it worked exactly as how I envisioned I had a grin on my face from ear to ear. I love the general idea of a multi-utility piece as you can see in my pool mods and mod ideas.

Love them all! such great versatility and having that torch (a) working and (b) 'removable' is just par excellence!

Now - how do you get a light behind that mirror so that when it is 'on' - You see a ghostly green face staring back at you ??? ;)

That'd be a cool idea... I guess you would need a two-way type mirror like in police interview rooms... you would have to build a little dark room around the image on the other side of the mirror and have a light that you could turn on to reveal the image.

I'm sure there are other ways to do it, but that's the best I can think of.

This is a brilliant idea. I have been loathe to fully commit tiles to having specific things on the walls. This is a great solution!

I have made a video showing the completed work. It's pretty much how you would build a torch mod, but with the added step of adding the neodymium magnets. Here it is:

Its too bad that the mini lcd/eink style displays I've found are all ~2" wide. Something smaller you might be able to do the ghostly image.

Other than that having something like those black light responsive tattoos on a mirror surface that you just have to put a blacklight on & suddenly there is a full colour image. Or even something like ClearNeon that paints on clear but displays under uv light.

You can get tiny LED black lights that the switch could control...

JC...I think once my purse is talking to me again we should look at picking up some mini blaclight style LEDs and maybe some more paint...

Here's the final torch. I wanted to put a plate on the back of it so it would hide the magnets. It was a minor thing, but I think it adds to the overall look.

That backplate is the icing on the cake.

Nice work.

Thanks, Nate!

I forgot to add for anyone looking to reproduce what I did that the back plate was cut from a .030" (.75mm) Thick sheet of styrene that I purchased from one of my local gaming stores. The reason I did that was because you cannot use anything that will conduct electricity touching the contacts. You could also use a piece of balsa, too.

The paint I used was the Pokorny Base Gray, then a coat of Vallejo Gunmetal Metal. For the rust I used Vallejo Copper mixed with Orange Fire and a bit of Red... then highlighted with Orange Fire.

You know, if you're going to all the trouble to make the accessories magnetically swappable, you should make at least one other LED option other than a torch. You've got the infrastructure, now give some cool flavor options that take advantage of it.

Maybe a glowing glyph? Or skull with glowing eyes? Or magic orb of light? Or just a simple lantern?

I'm working on perfecting some of the process... once I do I will likely be selling them.

However, I have a lot of work still to do to get my Etsy store up and that's coming first.
