TOPIC: Cavern mine cart tracks

Re:Cavern mine cart tracks 5 Months, 1 Week ago
Peco SL-400 track with a Peco SL-440 Stop to show the wooden sleepers:

Peco SL-400 track and a Roco 34607 “short flat” car.

I don't have any of the other mine cars with me, but the BCH 5104 (aka Roco 34603) “Trash Car” has the same size bogie, and a open top wooden box in place of the flat-bed.

Details on scale, gauge, and BCH (and Roco) "MinitrainS" mine cars.

That looks the best commercially available track set I have seen. I love the wooden rough sleepers and the wooden end stop. Looks fantastic. I am sure I could 'dull' and 'rust up' the silver looking tracks.
Many thanks MJBurrage and welcome to these forums.

In the late 1760s, the Coalbrookdale Company began to fix plates of cast iron to the upper surface of the wooden rails.

Sometime after 1790...
The flanged wheel eventually proved its superiority due to its performance on curves, and the composite iron/wood rail was replaced by all metal rail, with its vastly superior stiffness, durability, and safety.

@MJBurrage Thanks for the pics! I just received my sample pieces of track in the mail today for O and N scale and for the mine cart pieces. The track you posted definitely looks better than the stuff I got. I'll have to take a look into that.

Same to you Jackattack. That's an interesting picture and in reality is probably closer to what would really have been used. I'll have to think some on if I want to go that way or stick with more modern but less authentic looking track.

"Probably closer"? It's a museum piece.

If people are keen on tracks, I would say that they are a dwarvish invention. Personally, I would just find a couple of small carts or wagons, and maybe drybrush some marks onto some floor tiles to show where ruts are starting to form.

Jackattack,

That is a great picture! I'm going to study it very closely....it makes sense to me....I wouldn't want anything too high tech, otherwise there would be trains right?

True, though a big part of trains is the technology to propel them. Even without steam power it's possible to build metal tracks for mine carts.

I love Jackattack's picture though, so that type of thing sounds good to me.
