My Mods 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Here's the first look at my paint scheme and mods.

I wanted less-garish contrast than the pre-paints provided and also wanted to vary the presentation to be more pleasing visually to the eye.

I love the aged look of the metallic demon door. Good job!

I like the dusty corner and the crumbling brick. Really nice subtle mods.

How did you do the crumbling effect? Glued sand?

You've got quite an extensive collection of very well painted old-school miniatures in you photobucket account. I love it!

Plus for the crumbling effect and the patina wear.

Nice!

Yeah, I really don't post many pictures in forums anymore. It's too big a pain in the arse. It is much easier on google plus.

I've since darkened all the colours down a wee bit.

The crumbling is done with a mixture of different size railway ballast. I use Tacky Glue and sprinkle some on. Let it dry. Paint over it. It highlights nicely and doesnt budge.

I have a bunch of other mods as well. I'll post those when I finish my sets, which are almost done.

The main thing for me is that I need variation to the eye and the DF pieces don't help much there. You need to vary them up a bit to keep the verisimilitude of the game. At least for me, anyway.

Here's my game tiles 2.0 with a just slightly darker paint scheme and close-up of mods:

Wow! Very nice mods and paint jobs. I like the subtlety of the floor mods. I think I'll add that to my list of mods to do to my pieces.

Really nice work.

Lots of great subtle details in there. I love the single colored squares that you use to make patterns.

And the floor divots are great. How do you dig those out?

Yea. I need to pull a few floor tiles aside to do some of those mods... did you gouge out with a dremel? love the skeletal parts added back in. very nice.

I used both a regular hand-drill for the deeper holes (skulls) and then cleaned the edges with an Exacto knife. For the gravel I used a micro-dremel with a ball-reamer tip to skim off the top layer to provide just enough depth. I also used the latter tool for taking out individual bricks in the walls and corners,

I bought painted (noted earlier) but wasn't happy with them so I covered them in the equivalent of Reaper Shadowed Stone, then I went very light with the next coat similar to Weathered Stone. Added the bricks (Weathered Stone and Olive Dry Brush colours) and then washed with a mix of black shoe polish/water/future floor polish in roughly 1/1/1 with perhaps some extra water. Then Shadowed again and Dullcoted. I might do the slightest hint of white dry-brushing if I get the time. The overall effect mimics what Stefan does but Ina slightly different way.

I base all my miniatures on flagstone bases and I wanted the dungeon to match the bases as closely a as possible.
