TOPIC: Help with Spray Paint

Help with Spray Paint 6 Months, 1 Week ago
I backed the game tiles KS (5 painted sets +).

I would really like to repaint them.

So, in terms of base coating I'd like to spray paint the batch and then do the various stages by hand.

I need a dark grey to start, but I know the dwarvenite reacts differently given the paint.

Can someone please suggest a line of spray paint that can do the job?

I know the chart exists, but I'm talking spray paint.

I would really appreciate the help of the community.

Thanks!

most folks have suggested not using spay paint as it will cover some of the detail and the natural color of the game tiles will not show up as well.

but if you are determined, I would suggest Army painter primer. it is good quality, designed for mini and comes in lots of colors.

I would suggest testing out any spray paint you end up with on one piece and see how it is after a few day. I know one of the player in my group used primer on his resin bones and it was very tacky/sticky. we have not tried to paint them yet.

as usual my advice is worth what you paid for it. :)

ps answered her because your post on the KS forum got buried so fast. if it work out please post your pic in the cool picture section, we all love seeing what other gamers are doing with their tiles.

Yes, I would absolutely test first.

I'm not worried about burying the detail. If primer on a mini with chain mail can show up, it will on terrain no problem.

Yes, I will run tests first.

My sets look more chocolate brown than grey, and the difference between the base and top coats is too harsh for my own personal taste, thus the need to re-base.

I also want to paint the occasional floor tile to provide some variation to the eye.

I pleaded for 5 unpainted, then bought the DF paints. it was my first time painting terrain (or any gaming items). My son's gaming group all pitched in with the painting, watched Stefan's video twice and them had two 6 hour painting parties. I felt they turned out quite nice for our purposes.

Good luck and honestly, post some pics when you are done.

Interesting read.

I think the army painter grey might be too light for a base coat.

I might have to do a painting party to brush on the acrylic base.

May I suggest a more simple solution? Find someone who bought unpainted Sets still procrastinating against painting them that would not "mind" exchanging his dark grey Sets against your Painted Sets. Win-win for both parties I say. I think you might even ask the guy to pay for shipping fees.

I am working (very slowly) on a custom painted set for a single different room. I know dwarvenite does not NEED primer, but the fact is it paints better when it is primed (something i learned and recreated doing my own addl CoS pieces as per the brilliant tutorial here. As much as i have tried to find a cheaper solution Army Primer has given me the most success.

Like Biowizard said , I would be one of those that have not painted my sets yet and would do an even trade piece for piece plus pay for shipping if you are in the states. Interested??
