Egyptian themed paint scheme 6 Months ago
Here is my attempt at an Egyptian themed paint scheme for my next campaign. I'm aiming for sun bleached ancient stone.

Playing D&D since 1982 and DMing since 1986. I still rember that first red box! I've been a Dwarven Forge collector since 1998.

I like it. Could you give us a run down of the paints and process used?

Looks good to me... definitely reminds me of some Egyptian things I've seen in museums.

I started with the dark grey GT pieces with no prep or primer. My first coat is a dark brown, in this case Earth Brown 11314 from Anita's all purpose acrylic craft paint. I applied this coat wet brush but did not try to fill in all of the cracks and crevasses. I let the dark recesses remain dark grey. The second coat is yellow ochre from Americana acrylic craft paint. This coat was a damp/dry brush, I covered most of a piece but let some of the previous brown to show here and there. The third and last coat is an off white, stone edge from Pokorny paint colours. This coat is a dry brush and just lightly dusted over a whole piece. This last effect reduces the yellow and tones the color to an aged bleached look. Between each step I let the pieces have a lot of drying time. Otherwise the paint comes off easily, even though it looks and feels dry. This doesn't happen if the paint sets for a while.

Below are pics of the steps and paint colors.

Brian.

Thanks very much for sharing (and also including steps and colors used!)!

I run a darksun game and still have a few unpainted sets and this has inspired me =) Great job man, these are beautiful!
