Scrying Pool with LCD Photo Frame 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
So, riffing off the portal pool idea in one of the other threads (here: www.dwarvenforge.com/forum?func=view&catid=520&id=58002&limit=12&start=36#59246 ) I thought how cool it would be to have a scrying pool which could have custom images show up in it... ie, let's say you take a picture of another part of your dungeon you build and show that in the scrying pool, or take several pictures and have several options depending on the players' actions. What's needed is a photo frame, something like this:

It needs to be relatively small, and this is at 1.5". It also needs to be relatively inexpensive and this fits the bill at $7.75 CDN.

I think this is a great idea.

Also usable without the pool..

Just frame it in with tiles, and you have yourself a portal!

Images of: Bad guys to come, apocalyptic scenarios/landscapes, far away lands for future adventures.

This is a great way to end a session. The PC's are facing a portal to a distant land... the picture gives them a preview of next weeks game.

That really is a great idea!!

I would also love to see this hung from a wall in a great big gold gilt frame. The whole ' Mirror mirror on the wall' speaking mirror ala snow white or (more up my street) 13th Kingdom. (watch it if you have not done so yet..)

I wonder if I could put my iPod nano to use as a scrying pool. (The old one with the square screen and the control wheel, not the new one with the full-size multi-touch screen.)

I could run video in my portal / scrying pool / magic mirror.

My buddy and I used to do an extreme Halloween setup at his house before his daughter was born. The interactive talking mirror is one of the ideas I always wanted to try. Here's a video of it in action:

And here's the program (free) that you can use to create the interactive talking head:

You would need to modify a 2.5"-3.5" TFT LCD Security monitor, which would take a VGA to RCA cable at it's simplest, or some electronics knowledge at it's worst. Here are some links:
