I know the feeling dafcra. This thread has turned into my pledge is bigger than your pledge competition. I am glad some of you are doing so well. It is not like we are curing cancer here.

I assure you all that was not my intention when starting this thread. I really was in a quandary with how many rivers to buy as a ratio to sets. +Did I or didn't I really want Lava. +How many chasm packs etc etc.

I changed my pledge three times before settling & everyones comments really helped me make sure I was doing the best I can with what I could afford.
I am not personally a big fan of these huge KS's. For years been very happy buying a couple of sets that I like the look of when I had the money. The whole KS ethos is 'go in quick and go in big'. I certainly blew my budget and am paying penance at home... & on my credit card.... (Exactly how long I need to do all the kitchen chores has not yet been finally agreed!)

Don't worry, this thread has been very useful to a great many people I would think. It's extremely helpful to see people's thoughts about add-on packs etc. all in one place.

From a different perspective, I REALLY appreciate this huge kickstarter. As someone who never bought DF products before, waiting for dwarvenite sets to dribble out 1 or 2 at a time over years would NOT have inspired me to buy. Letting me jump in with a fully usable and customizable set from the get-go is perfect for my needs. Those new to Dwarven Forge needed a large KS like this.

I fully agree. Big KS are great for new buyers.

Thanks to all who have weighed in with their pledges, ideas, and advice on this thread.

After upping my budget yet again. I'm at a hard budget wall and one more decision to make.

I'm at 10 painted Cavern sets.
at least 1 of each painted add-on not mentioned below(Stalagmites, Mushrooms, etc) and the following pertinent add-on composition.

0 Narrow Passage
1 Narrow Dungeon Passage
2 Elevation
1 Large Pedestal
1 Lava River
1 Lava Cavern
2 Water Cavern
2 Floor
Dungeon Passage Packs 1,2,3,4,4

My budget cap can fit in up to 2 of the above packs. I'm leaning toward one being a second Narrow Dungeon Passage Pack. Can't decide on the other one, if any. Debating between some more elevation or a 3rd floor pack.

I'm planning on working some negative space builds (Have a chasm pack + chasm SGs), so not sure I'm crazy about another Water or Lava River but I can be convinced :-) (The ones of these I'm getting are for ease of small builds and accenting). I know some are buying 2 Lava Caverns for every Lava River pack, but I'm not sure the Lava Cavern pack is all that. Are the pieces in that versatile enough to use regularly? SGs give me a load of Narrow Cavern passage pieces, so not sure the Narrow Cavern passage pack is worth it.

Any advice on this last decision would be greatly appreciated. The sooner I can close the pledge manager out, the better :-). Thanks.

I'm at $325 for 5 unpainted. I may add the narrow dungeon pack and considering the elevation and platform pack, but in my mind that is getting rather spendy. Later this week, I will be receiving some materials that could be durable replacements for the elevation blocks, so these will help me make up my mind. They may or may not suck- styrofoam and model magic won't do, and that is way too much resin or hot glue to mess with.

Going elevated will take up tons of pieces, go big or go home! That is not hyperbole- overdo on the elevation pieces rather than water/lava pieces IMO. The chasm tiles + blue/red paper or film make a suitable substitute for water or lava. Some other crafted solutions could be possible I feel. But elevation opens up the 3d dimension in whole new ways and creates a richer visual and strategic playstyle.

Another way to look at it- colored pogs or 3D minis? (a bit simplistic I know)

Either way, you can't really go wrong :p

if you watch some of the sneak peak videos, they do show (and some of the pics) show some really neat builds with only a little elevation. you can build up and use ramps or bridges and all sorts of nook/crannies to climb.

you may be surprised by what 1 elevation pack could do... to make your campaign a little 3D.

Aside from the Dungeon Passage mix that Jenney mentioned, I'd consider swapping out an unpainted chasm pack for an unpainted floor or elevation pack.

Your 8 unpainted cavern sets will get you more than a chasm set worth of chasm pieces in SGs. You've got so many water packs it seems like you're not going for negative space builds much, so not sure of the need for so many chasm pieces. Floor pieces on the other hand will be useful in any builds (and if you want larger ice and lava caverns, you could do 1 floor pack in each paint scheme. If you're going to do elevation at all, you'll need stairs. Consider whether the 2 elevation packs you got are enough for you.

Whether you tweak it or not, looks like a nice package!

I think you're right, I was definitely overdoing the chasms, keep forgetting to add those SG pieces in there.

Stairs and elevation wouldn't work for me in a lava scheme, but I might consider it later down the line. A floor pack is probably best for me.

So at this juncture I removed 1 Chasm and added a floor, and switched 1 Dungeon Pack #3 to a #2 (that way I can properly figure what pieces I might need to go for later if I have one of each type), only a bump up of $10 so keeping within my budget.

Thanks for the input, everyone, I will still be looking until I lock in later this week!

@dandare I have no issue with your intent of starting the thread and yes I get it has been useful. The issue became when a few started posting $5K-$10K pledges it really made some of us feel small. Now I get at least one of those was a group pledge. Still, I normally am scraping to pledge $200-$300 even with help of other gamers. This economy really blows for some of us.

@brvheart - I had some unexpected expenses, I had to pony up for some medical stuff and almost 2k on auto repairs. With my decimated budget all I could squeeze in was three painted sets and two addons for now. I did throw in one bottle of the new paint though, I really like the line. I wouldn't feel bad about pledging what you can or want. I don't see a problem with folks with huge pledges sharing what they got personally, even if I am a wee pinch jealous! Your feelings are valid, I just wouldn't necessarily attribute any ill-will to the other posters.

I decided I wanted to get the wicked additions and water. I want the water because I can see first hand how the paint job is to help me make decisions about future purchases. Elevation I can easily make with my various tools and Pokorny paints, though I will probably pick up at least one later to check out. I will want some passages, but those will also be a later purchase. I suppose it will help DF out to get stuff from the store later too, I just wish my November boxes would be as big as I originally planned!

A lot of people like the negative space approach, but I have not seen any that appealed to me as much as actual tiles for water. This doesn't mean I won't use negative space for water, but I will use it for representing especially large bodies so I can enjoy the tiles for the smaller ones.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

Good Lord...if we are going to worry about people spending 5k on cavern tiles ... why have our jealously standard set so low?

Look at the celebrities buying multi-million dollar mansions.
Look at the billionaires of the world.
How can someone have their own private jet?

No matter where you go in the world or how much money you make...there is someone out there with more money or "things". Besides without the average backer at $500+ dollars (Definitely bumped up by the big, big spenders) we wouldn't be enjoying the benefits of all the stretch goals.

But just between me and you...anyone who spends more money than me is definitely a jerk and anyone who spends less than me is awesome

I'm jealous of everyone who has a group to play with. ;-)

I'm in overdrive as a new collector of 3D terrain and it's not being used right now because my old group broke up... But that's forcing me to want to try my hand at DMing and meeting/gathering a new group.. Scary and exciting... Right now I'm just having a lot of fun spending the precious little time I have painting and making mods.o

Well, I am certainly not jealous of someone having $5000 worth of DF as I personally have that much. Although it has taken 11 years to accumulate at around $300/yr. But I guess there is some amount of jealousy about being able to afford to do that all at once so I guess my bad and I apologize for that.
