Isn't 5 sets painted only $455
10 sets unpainted is $615

wait... is that the different in 5 sets for an international backer vs a domestic backer? ouch. I feel for you.

Right now I am not sure what I am going to get. I am pledged for
5 sets unpainted
2 elevation, unpainted
brushes
paint set
However, I ordered brushes and paint on line and was hoping to add more add-ons. I have not worked for two years and am disabled so have no income. Was hoping my SSDI would come through and I would be able to get more, but I just got my denial letter. Now I am wondering if I over pledged:(

unfortunately it might be too late to drop your pledge or cancel it.

there are some things you can rearrange if you wanted to get more add-ons in place of a set or rearrange your add-ons

1. drop paints/brushes - $40 for an add-on choice

2. drop paints/brushes - move from 2 elevation to 1 elevation and 1 pedestal pack - gives you $45 for an add-on choice

3. drop from 5 sets to 2+2 sets and drop paint/brushes - $75 for 2 add-ons ($35+$40)

4. drop from 5 sets to 2+2 sets, drop paint/brushes, move from 2 elevation to 1 elevation and 1 pedestal pack - $80 for add-ons (2x $40, or 2x$20 + $40)

5. you can always keep the 5 set pledge w SGs and sell some of them later also to recover your costs...

The spreadsheet for the Caverns Calculator that is posted here in the forums is really useful for playing with all your options and looking at the total price you have already pledged and creating different combinations that equal that same pledge.

Yes, thanks I have been playing with the calculator. One of my gamers is chipping in for 2 painted water sets so I am at $565. Problem is my calculator keeps coming up around $700! Oh balls to the walls, I should get back pay eventually right? If not, there always is Ebay!

Ok, here is my finalized order:

- Cavern Stone Dry Brush (1 bottle)
- Floor Pack (Dungeon Gray)
- Narrow Passage Pack (Dungeon Gray)
- Narrow Dungeon Passage Pack (Dungeon Gray)
- 2 x Elevation Pack (Dungeon Gray)
- 2 x Water Cavern Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- NEW! Wicked Cavern Add-on Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 5 Cavern Sets (Dungeon Gray)

I finalized so I would not be tempted to add any more!

Done, now I can stop playing with pledge manager.

- 2 x Mushroom Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- Chasm Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 4 x Water Cavern Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- Stalagmite Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 2 x NEW! Wicked Cavern Add-on Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 2 x Floor Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 2 x Lava River Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- Narrow Passage Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 2 x Narrow Dungeon Passage Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 2 x Elevation Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 2 x Lava Cavern Pack (Expertly Hand Painted)
- 5 Cavern Sets (Expertly Hand Painted)

I always admired DF, but I thought DF was too expensive and I struggled to justify it, as I would need to get several sets for the initial buy in. A few years ago I brought some Ruins that were on special, my first and only resin (so far), With the idea that each year I would buy another set or two and slowly build up a collection.

Now if I add up now what I have spent on KS1 and KS2, I should have just taken the plunge years ago.

I have to remind myself that you guys haven't had a chance to actually use any of these cavern Sets to build anything...you have only seen pictures and videos....you will be SO amazed at how much interesting it is to build with these pieces...just want you guys to know that you will be very very happy in November!

OK, so I have been waffling with the Pledge Manager all week...

My pledge was originally $1,080 for the following:

Rewards Selected
1 x 3 Cavern Sets (Expertly Hand Painted) $285
1 x 5 Cavern Sets (Expertly Hand Painted) $455

Add-Ons Selected
1 x NEW! Wicked Cavern Add-on Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $55 (This was bucketed as a second floor pack at the end of the KS)
1 x Floor Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $55
2 x Water Cavern Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $100
1 x Elevation Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $70
1 x Large Pedestal Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $60

Logic:
I wanted to maximize the SG pieces in my mix, since (theoretically) I could purchase additional add-ons later. I really like the 45 corner, as well as corner C (inside turn corner, in my mind).
I skipped mushrooms since one of my players has several of Keebler Orc's mushroom sets that he painted.
I skipped the stalagmite pack because I have some of the pieces in resin and I have the Hirst Arts water cavern molds, so I do not need more of those types of pieces.
I went with one floor pack since I can make my own floor tiles, again with Hirst Arts molds.
I skipped all of the hallway sets since I have several room and passage and narrow passage sets in resin.
Simply no interest in lava sets...I wanted to focus on standard environments.
I wanted to get water and elevation packs...I figure 8 sets of SG would cover the passage pieces and chasm pieces well enough...

However, now I am looking at doing the following:
Rewards Selected
1 x 5 Cavern Sets (Expertly Hand Painted) $455
Add-Ons Selected
1 x 3-Brush Variety Pack of Pokorny Quality Brushes $10
1 x NEW! Wicked Cavern Add-on Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $55
3 x Floor Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $165
2 x Water Cavern Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $100
1 x Chasm Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $40
2 x Elevation Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $140
1 x Large Pedestal Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $60
1 x Narrow Passage Pack (Expertly Hand Painted) $55

At this point I am thinking 5 sets and SG would cover all of the walls I can really fit into a build that will fit on the gaming table...
Moved up to 3 floor packs because I know how long it actually takes to cast and build with Hirst Arts molds, and I want to focus on my gothic pieces since I can get caverns done for me….
With $10 to spare I added in the brushes because I can use them with my other terrain projects.
Went for the chasm set since the pieces can be turned on their sides for half walls and other versatile applications.
Added narrow passage for more hall pieces…I think these can probably be turned upside down for stacking as well.
Added a second elevation pack for even more blocks and stairs…

But again, the idea of getting 8 core sets is appealing for the sheer number of pieces, as well as getting more of the SG only pieces….

Darn you Stefan for making so many awesome choices!

Peer review thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Although I have always been happy with my DF, I hope so as I REALLY stretched with this one buying with hope of future income. I am sure I will be though as I have never been disappointment by your stuff!

Both are very nice packages of sets, and thanks for discussing your rationales-- That point about using upright chasm pieces for half-walls, for example, was something I hadn't thought of.

I had to laugh at your thought progression, because my thinking has been going in the exact OPPOSITE direction :-).

My original pledge total was going to go for 5 base sets and a ton of add-ons (as I don't own any resin or other 3d terrain currently) but I'm having a hard time justifying NOT going for 8 or 10 base sets. With the stretch goals from 8-10 sets, I think a chasm set and narrow passage set are overkill (the SG's basically provide 1+ of each of those sets.) I'm debating the need for multiple water and lava river sets as well, when I could go with negative space layouts. And with 8-10 base sets, the extra base floors and SG floors reduces the need for a huge multiple of floor packs if your builds aren't very big. So I'm looking at upping base sets and reducing add-ons!

However, I want to quote the most important point you made that I also just realized recently:

Moved up to 3 floor packs because I know how long it actually takes to cast and build with Hirst Arts molds, and I want to focus on my gothic pieces since I can get caverns done for me….

The point being that people should value their time!!!! I was not going to get any large pedestal packs, thinking that even as a hack at crafting, I can use foam to make elevation inserts etc., but... it dawned on me that in the grand scheme of things, spending 60$ a pack is worth every penny to get cool looking, expertly painted, modular elevation pieces that will save me from driving to a Home Depot, buying foam or wood, and taking time away from work/kids/gaming to figure out a solution which probably wouldn't look that great anyway.

If I were you, I'd up the base sets back up to 8 to get those SGs and possibly save on chasm or floor packs, as the SG only pieces like Corner C will probably end up in repackaged add-ons later that might be a pain to buy because of redundancy and shipping cost later on. You may have a few more walls than you think you'll need, but the versatility and sheer number of the SGs and extra base floors etc. will make it worth it I would think. Just my 2 cents.

My pledge isn't finalized yet either, so feel free to let me know if you see any flaws in my thinking :-).

Happy pledging!

I hate to say this, but you cannot add base sets in Pledge Manager, only add-ons. You can lower them I suppose. I am not sure if you are committed there or not.
