Budget was really tight this time around (and only getting tighter these days)- just 2 painted sets for me...with the hope of buying the add-on packs from the online store at a later date. I *NEEEEEEEEED* those water and elevation packs so bad it hurts! It burns us, it freezes!

Oh boy...

10 painted sets
10 unpainted sets
2 Floor Pack
2 Lava Caverns
1 Lava River
3 Water Caverns
1 Chasms
2 Elevation Pack
1 Large Pedestal Pack
1 Narrow Passages
2 Stalagmite Packs
1 Mushroom Pack
1 GT Narrow Passages
1 GT Passage Set #1
1 GT Passage Set #2
1 GT Passage Set #3
1 GT Passage Set #4

All add ons are painted.

I only plan on keeping about 6 painted cavern sets; the rest were bought to sell to lower the cost of everything else.

Last time (KS1) I did

10 painted sets
10 unpainted sets
3 DD Packs painted
1 DD Pack unpainted
1 Floor Pack painted
1 Floor Pack unpainted
1 COS painted
1 COS unpainted
1 Windowed wall pack painted
1 Stairs pack painted

Of the sets I kept 5 GT painted sets and 2 unpainted, which I'm painting to fire and ice sets right now. The rest were sold to offset the costs of the other stuff.

Thanks for starting this thread as I was interested in seeing other people's ideas before finalizing.

I also like the idea of unpainted so I can add ice caverns but I would like to also add the Underdark with one of my sets + part of a floor pack. It seems like that would be another great transition piece in a cavern setting.

I would like to have a lava setting, ice setting, Underdark setting, and the cavern setting. The 2 Floor packs will help with the Ice and Underdark setting and I should only be comitting 1 cavern set per each of those.

Only concern I have is if I have enough paint and also what additional paints I will need to finish Water, Lava, Ice, & Underdark.

Budget: $1,000 Pledged

Current: $965 Total (Leaving some for Wicked Pack)

Re:Cavern KS - Peer Pledge Review 6 Months, 1 Week ago
I am sitting at $848 prior to the Pledge Manager

1x 5 cavern sets - unpainted
1x cavern stone dry brush (single bottle)

2x floor pack - unpainted (may drop one for the mystery add-on)
1x lava cavern - unpainted (looking for alt sculpts, not lava itself)
3x water pack - unpainted
1x chasm pack - unpainted
2x elevation pack - unpainted
1x lg pedestal pack - unpainted
2x stalagmite pack - unpainted

1x mushrooms - painted (they looked really well done and cool)

rational - I was looking to get a similar volume as KS1 which was the following:
1x 3 set dungeons - unpainted
1x EA ADD-ON offered - unpainted
1x CoS painted

I also wanted to allow for a decent elevation build if desired (going off of Nate's description of 10 sets + 4 water + 40 elevation blocks) i scaled it down just slightly to what is above.

I want a touch of Lava (not a full cavern/river's worth, but a small pool, some floor tiles, and a wall or two... and I have no fear of painting lava myself so I am using the lava cavern pack to increase my alternate sculpts of walls/corners

I am debated whether I want to keep my 2 floors or drop a floor for the mystery vs. just adding the mystery in the pledge manager...

i also find myself failing my will save for adding the Dungeon tiles into the pledge manager. I wanted to wait until they hit the DF store and then grab them in Nov or so, so I could give them to my son for Christmas, but i think I read somewhere that the DF store probably wouldn't ship until AFTER Christmas, so i find myself wondering if I should just add them now in the pledge manager so I know I have Christmas covered. I would just need to hide some of the boxes that come with the caverns.

looking at
1x Narrow dungeon passageways
1x Dungeon set 1
1x Dungeon set 2 (for those more difficult builds and twists/turns)
1x Dungeon set 3
2x Dungeon set 4

(that is an additional $190ish (all unpainted) that i am debating on... I know I have a decent tax return coming and I was planning on buying them anyway in Dec. this would save me shipping and guarantee Christmas delivery... right? right?

losing my will...

Re:Cavern KS - Peer Pledge Review 6 Months, 1 Week ago
$285 – 3 Sets, Painted. I think the core value was just really there with the sculpts. It impressed me more than the existing resin caverns. I knew I would be getting add-ons, so I didn't need 5 or 10 sets.

$55 – Narrow Passage Pack, Painted. The one major thing I wanted was passages, this time around. The addition of 10 of them was worth it. The 45 degree corners add a ton of versatility to the build, and the boulder trap? That’s just cool.

$150 – 2 Lava Cavern Packs, Painted. No way in h*ll I was gonna try to paint that myself, and no way I was going to miss it. WAY too cool. Truly a beautiful set. Will it be used a whole lot? Probably not for a while, and not often, but I wanted to make sure I had “enough” when it did hit the table.

$30 – Dungeon Passage Pack #1, unpainted. Wasn’t expecting passages for the original Game Tiles sets. I was pretty excited by this. As I have existing resin sets, I already have L, T, and + intersections, so the ability to make them already negated the need for a purchase of additional packs. Straight passages though? Oh, yes. I chose to go unpainted, because when I paint them, they will match my existing GT sets perfectly (and God knows I have enough paint left over for it.)

$200 – 4 Water Cavern Packs, Painted. I was truly NOT expecting these, as I was of the thinking that they would stick with the old resin formula. I even said so in some of the KS comments. Color me **VERY** happy.

$50 – Elevation Pack, Unpainted. I can see the usefulness in these, and really loved the stairways and bridges. I didn’t think the paint jobs on these would be super complex, so I vouched for unpainted…....wait, that means I need....

$8 – Cavern Drybrush Paint Bottle. Thank you guys for offering this up as a stand alone, and saving me some dough, instead of needing to drop for yet another full pack. I haven’t even gotten close to opening my second pack from the 1st KS yet, and doubt I will ever need to.

$40 – Narrow Dungeon Passage Pack, Unpainted. I probably would have been less likely to get this had they not added the 45 degree corners. I know that a lot of dungeons I put my group through DO have 10 foot twisting hallways, though. The addition of the transition piece was icing on the cake.

$30 – Chasm Pack, Unpainted. This is one I really wanted. You can get really creative with those pieces, and create lots of different uses for them. I have a feeling that I will actually paint half of them in Grey, and half in Caverns, so I can add even more versatility to them. Very cool.

$55 – Lava River Pack, painted. Increases the usefulness of the Lava Cavern pack, and again, absolutely beautiful. Again, wish I could snag a few more of these, but the images shown look like they will give me a decent playing area, especially with the 2 lava cavern sets.

$80 – 2 Floor Packs, Unpainted. I cannot stress enough the importance of additional floors. If you want to make big rooms, you need to invest in these, or you wind up using all of your existing 2x2’s, and are left wondering “what just happened?” I feel bad for anyone who chose not to get these. I don’t see anything that is going to give me a huge issue with painting this time around, which is why I opted for unpainted.

Grand Total: $988.00, HOWEVER, I have not yet seen the cost of the WA set, so I am probably going to be closer to $1050.00.

I basically get a 3 x 5 foot footprint, with all pieces lined up end on end. That’s enough to cover a large area of my gaming table. I have versatility, multiple levels, and multiple “feels” with the water and lava, which is pretty much exactly what I wanted.

So what did I NOT get?

Stalagmite pack – love the sculpts, but I would rather have more floor space. Might snag this from the store after its release. I may have felt quite a bit differently if I didn’t get free stalagmites, and free standing walls with the stretch goals, along with the addition of the new floor in the floor pack, but I feel that I have enough pieces that I would be able to make a decent “barrier” if the need arises.

Mushroom Pack – I liked it, but, they looked SLIGHTLY cartoony to me. For the amount of times this will hit my table, it’s just not worth the investment, and I know there are other ways to accomplish the same thing.

Dungeon Passages 2,3,4 – I can make the shapes already, and would rather put more money into something new, than a redo of the wheel.

Elevation Blocks - I love the idea of these, but I don't know how much they are going to be used. 8 in the elevation pack should hold me for a while. If not, I'll just snag a set or 2 down the road.

ok. random question.

having NO Master Maze passageways, will I get the bang for my buck if I jump on the train and add 1,2,3,4,4 and narrow to my order? are they worth my effort?

thanks.

I think the narrow passage set is one of the most useful sets. Not just for passages but hidden rooms and vaults and as foundation blocks.

The room sections are the same size as the Tavern blocks. I did not pledge for the other passages be cause I already have so many

After reading a forum post which showed that this floor plan is 5 cavern sets (with stretch goals included) + 2 water add-ons + 1 lava cavern set it became evident to me that I needed more floor add-ons.

I removed the paints and paintbrushes to free up enough for an additional floor pack. The 4x4" tiles alone (15 total tiles of 4x4" in 3 sets) will replace 60 2x2" floor tiles which, to me, is significant.

Pledge is $1,000 with $45 left for wicked add-on.

600lbpanther,

Nice list.
Since you are going unpainted, I would suggest removing the 2x lava cavern sets and look at getting two more base sets with the strecth goals. It is a little bit more ($35), but you get a lot more dwarvenite to make into a lava set. The same sculpts are present in both sets, however in different amounts. If your budget is fixed, perhaps you could remove the pedestal pack. You are already getting 16 pedestals from your elevation packs. You can probably pick more pedestals later, but I doubt you will be able to get the free strecth goals.

Either way nice list, I'm getting something similair.
