WOW - Galladril your painting is virtually indistinguishable from the factory prepaints (i mean this as a compliment...) truly oustanding work and i love the fact that you wore out a brush ;)

As for the CoS it is really red and Lava like... so i think it could work for blood or fire, depending on how you dress it - i really like mine and will build out the set - i am not sure i would paint a whole addl set in CoS, but definitely a bunch of floors, a few walls and maybe some additional corners (i think the big pool would look cool in a round cornered alcove...)

Keep up the great work!

So does the wax-paper make it easier to get the pieces up after they dry?

That spray lacquer, how long does that stuff last? What all companies make it? I'd hate to spray something on that is gonna crack or not last. Is that better than using a sealer with a brush from a can? Do they make sealers (minwax) that don't make your pieces shiny?

Which of Stefan's brushes do you use to do a base-coat? Is if the same as the #12 dry-brush or is it the #3 brush?

@ Kitenerd - Compliment taken as such, and I thank you for it. :)

The brush being worn out really isn't a mark against quality - in a weird way, it's actually FOR it. Drybrushing absolutely destroys brushes, and the fact that one has lasted as long as it has, and can still retain a point (minus a few bristles) is really a mark of excellence.

I'm toying with the idea of just doing one full blown set, or a stretch goals set, for the CoS. The problem really is that I just need to take it out, and build with it, to see exactly how much table area it will take up. If the existing set works and can give me a big enough area, I won't do it, but if it seems "small" to me, I might.

I still need to order paint for it as well, been watching all the CoS painting threads, and I think I finally found a scheme that looks like it will be pretty close to "factory."

@ Frog - The wax paper has been put down only to protect the surfaces I am laying the painted pieces on from getting any paint on them, as I am painting the sides and fronts, completely. So far, there hasn't been a single speck anywhere I don't want it, but I don't want to take the chance. I also have no trouble moving them around, wax paper or not. I would guess, though, that if a lot of paint were spattered on, they might stick.

I have not sprayed any clear coat or lacquer onto my Game Tiles pieces, and don't plan on doing so. Anything you see on my table is for completed miniatures only. As to it lasting - I have sealed miniatures using clear coat over 10 years ago, and they still look fine, without any damage to the paint job.

If you are looking for a non glossy sealer, I will recommend Testor's Dull Cote. It actually helps to matte down the finish, not a trace of glossiness anywhere, which is what I prefer.

Out of the 3 Brushes, you have the 1 - Detail, 3 - Painting, and 12 - Drybrush.

I use the Drybrush to lay down Base Grey.
I use the Painting to do individual stones in Earth Stone.
I use the Drybrush for Olive Drybrush.
I use the Drybrush for Stone Edge.

Have not yet used the "detail" brush at all, but that might change when I start doing the "accessory" pieces in the dungeon dressings pack. I would not reccomend using anything smaller than the Drybrush to do basecoating - it would take years.

Hope this helps!

Galladril -

My laughing at the worn out brush wasn't a criticism of the brush, more a testament to how hard you have been working!

Build the CoS... then try to integrate it into something else - you will quickly need more floors. Everytime you take out a wall to add a door (and lets face it we have a lot of demon doors and this is a good room to use them in), you need a floor to replace it... 7 does not go very far. Plus if you ever want to do something without the blood pool then you are really short of floors.

With my lack of skill the Liquitex Glossies were passable. In your hands they will be perfect!

@ Kitenerd - Well thank you, again, for your compliment.

I do not consider myself to be a great painter. SLIGHTLY above average? Maybe....but I am still working on a lot of "basic" techniques like layering.

To me, though, Drybrushing is Painting 101, and I've done it so much that I guess I just got decent at it.

In all fairness, I am still of the very firm belief that ANYONE can paint Game Tiles.

Terrain is not generally difficult. Miniatures with all their small bits are a different creature altogether, but like with everything else, the more you do, the better you become. :)

GORGEOUS!

your stuff looks phenomenal! - I love what the "boys" did with it - especially the third picture, mixing curves and diagonals that tightly together creates a really fun space!

pat yourself on the back, take a deep breath and then get back to painting! you have work to do ;)
