Recieved my tiles today - some initial feedback 11 Months, 1 Week ago
This is my first dwarven forge order, and my first order of anything like this. Previously I've only used some Pathfinder game mats, and I use their "Bestiary Box" for monsters. I run games only for my kids (just starting, too!) and so this is quite exciting for us.

I ordered 3 sets of unpainted tiles, plus 4 add-ons. I got a stair pack, a castle walls pack, and two dungeon dressing add-ons.

First, about the tiles themselves... the quality is excellent! Heavier than I expected (My order was 28lbs) and very sturdy. Not flexible at all. Solid is the word for it. I was pleasantly surprised with the Saturday delivery (though they showed up on my wife's birthday, so that was a bit awkward!). Once the box was open and the first pieces came out, my wife & kids got into opening more with me, and we all loved seeing the variety and style of pieces. The kids especially loved them. My wife likes the dungeon dressing pieces a lot (and will have a lot of fun painting them).

I had two doors that were not opening, both the same style. The plastic at the top of the hinge was solid. I pushed anyway, and the plastic gave, and now they open / close just fine. So that was no biggie.

We each toyed around with building random things for a bit, then I pulled out the map for "Crypt of the Everflame", one of the pathfinder adventures we've done, and set out to recreate it. We ran out of pieces eventually - mostly corners and walls, with about 90% of the dungeon able to be completed. I did have to get creative, as this particular one has a lot of narrow halls. (Single square long hallways)

In the end, I think these will encourage me to use the maps for the adventures more as "guidelines" and get creative on my own for dungeon design. If the sets were available for order now, I'd be ordering at least one more set, and a floor pack today.

I'll be participating in the caverns kickstarter for sure!

Here are some pictures of my interpretation of the "Crypt of the Everflame"

Thanks for the great product!

Oops, goofed up and added one picture twice by mistake, can't find a way to fix that. Also, sorry for the low quality, they're from a camera phone.

And one more shot, since I forgot the one of the whole dungeon.

I have run crypt of the everflame - fun adventure! - nice job recreating it - pretty impressive for three sets, i am amazed at how far the sets go - i was worried i only got 5, but seeing this i think i will be AOK!

Check out Keebleorc's fire pits... the first time i saw them was right after i ran crypy of the everflame and the first thing i thought of was the fire pit in that adventure!

Thanks for sharing, it is like a lifeline to those of us still patiently waiting

Here is my first tile, and a few of the dungeon dressing pieces I painted. I've never painted Minis of any kind before, so it's all a learning experience.

Uh-oh - I just congratulated Courham on being the first to post pictures of his painting handiwork - seems like we have more than one over achiever out there! - Well done and impressive, no grass growing beneath your feet!

I'm using the Pokorny Paints for the game tiles themselves, and for the dungeon dressing pieces I bought some Liquitex Basics Acrylic. It's very thick paint! BUT, I really really like the gold pile and how it came out, and the brown is good. I could see room for improvement in the brown, but overall I'm satisfied (The brown I used is Burnt Sienna, the gold is just called gold)

I just completed the first "Base Gray" paint on all of my tiles. Took about 3 hours!

If you're on the fence for leaving them plain, I would highly suggest doing a base gray and leaving a lot of the black showing through - it REALLY adds to the look of the individual tiles, and doesn't lighten them up too much. Here's a shot of all the pieces waiting for step 2.

awesome shots! How about a close up of a just base gray piece? You are right that it adds so much and is so quick to apply!

Thanks Stefan!

Here are a couple shots showing an unpainted table, a single base gray piece, and the one I did my testing with (It's lighter in color than I'm hoping I get for the others, I didn't dry my brush enough!)

Some pictures of my wall tiles after step two (highlighting some stones with the earth stone color.) I chose to paint a few less stones than suggested here intentionally, I like the look with fewer stones painted.

And here are a few with the "Olive dry brush" - including some next to the ones without it, for comparison. I'm intentionally varying this drybrush, with some having a tad more, some having less. The variation is great! (Making sure none have too much, though!)
