This is a good idea for a inspiration post.

This is one of the first times I used a tea candle fire pits.

This is a repainted pet dish. I used a product called Still Water for the water effect. There are Hirst Arts Cave floor cast, pine bark and Lemax Mountains repainted for a back drop in this photo.

The same set of terrain used for out side.

here are some items from www.herpsupplies.com/index.cfm

I plan to get some of these item and some others I have found. some with be great in a cavern setting.

I like the platform sections that will be perfect for minis. there is also a larger skull rock, with lots of place for kobolds, goblins or orcs to rain arrows upon a hapless party.

@TK266,
Those elevation pieces are fantastic!... I'm going to buy me some of those.

@Oldmanwillow,
I love your builds and setup; they are very inspirational.

I would love to get a lot of these aquarium pieces to enhance my caverns environment, and help break up the tile pattern somewhat. It seems to me that these aquarium pieces are pretty reasonably priced... Has anyone done a decent comparison with diorama/miniature terrain specific items... Can it even be reasonably done?

I think the larger pieces are about the same.

Some flying stands.

I know the greek/roman columns are very popular. I also like Lemax and other Christmas village accessories.

The aquarium pieces can vary a lot in casting quality, price, and paint job. The last is no problem for someone willing to paint (like yourself or Oldmanwillow, j). The casting quality... sometimes it is flash or small miscast details that can be fixed with a bit of your favorite air drying mold compound or an exacto. Those are easy. If the overall sculpt is iffy or major issues are present it doesn't seem worth it to get the piece to me.

Price wise I have seen a lot of variation. Some are quite reasonable though. I would say they can be great additions.

As Oldmanwillow mentioned, Lemax makes a number of X-mas and Halloween village pieces, some of which work quite nicely. They can even be bought very marked down at the end of the season or with big coupons from the likes of Hobby Lobby, Joanne Fabric, or Michael's. You can also sometimes find more generic companies, once in a while even at the Dollar store. The roads, plazas, trees, elevation pieces, mats, and some of the accessories will fit in scale nicely.

Oh, one other, the fairy garden stuff from some stores is in scale too. I got some nice Stonehenge style bits for a good price that way. Here is a link to a blog where someone used the pieces.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

I have that wizard's tower! Bought it a couple of weeks ago. I never considered making it into a flying rocket tower, though. That's pretty cool. What was the idea/inspiration behind that?

There is a magic item in WarHammer that allows a flying tower. I made a flying base. I was thinking, floating on a pillar of fire. The Spinks has a Sci Fi control room so it can fly.

In the comment section of KS2 there was this link (possibly by jchunick or TK266?) for this neat temple entrance:

I made sure to add it to my wishlist!

There are many other cool stuff to browse through on this website.

I'm sure we could find plenty of exotic jungle plants but I'm not yet sure what's the best product to fit our RPG needs.

@Biowizard,

It wasn't me who posted that link... probably TK266. I like that one a lot. I was recently searching for information on cutters for cutting styrene and came across some posts about creating palm trees using the vine material you can get at the pet stores... I think searching through forums on diorama building would lead to the best materials for exotic plants.
