Wicked additions waterfall piece feedback 6 Months ago
I'm looking at Stefan's sketch from the wicked additions prototypes, and I'm not sure if that's the best approach to the waterfall piece. How would that allow multi-tiered water effects? I was thinking that the waterfall piece should essentially be a wall piece that blended in better with the water cavern pieces.

Two problems inherent with making a waterfall tile. First, the rivers from the water pack end up being 2 tiles wide, so waterfalls kind of need to be the same width. Second, the water pack tiles all feature static pools, so tossing a waterfall might look a little dubious on the tabletop. The water just isn't the flowing variety.

I might make the falls plug into the stone edging of the water tiles, necessitating a right and left piece. I would do more of a trickling falls with ripples at the base rather than a rushing falls that would look inconsistent with the static water tiles.

Thoughts?

The thread that is talking about what you have brought up can be found below:
www.dwarvenforge.com/forum?func=view&catid=517&id=63492

Stefan had mentioned that a large modular system would take away from a Wicked Additions pack by taking up most of the pack. There is a possibility in the future that he would make a specific cavernous waterfall set and some of the concept art that other members have dreamed up is unbelievably awesome, just that they won't work for this KS.

People wanted waterfalls that you could move behind. This does accomplish that. you can make a multi-tiered waterfall if they are off set of each other, but as to the movement of the water... well you can paint or modify your tiles to do whatever you want...

this style seems to be the way that Stefan is moving forward with for the Wicked Additions pack... I hope that in the future we will see a fully fleshed out cavernous waterfall pack that can do the vast array of mock-ups that the concepts in the above thread have addressed.

Enjoy.

also if you think about it there realy is no need for a monsterous waterfall in a cavern it just wouldn't work yes i would like to have a modular waterfall set and i will buy a set if one becomes available my opinion it would work better as an outside peice

I've followed Oldmanwillow's design. It's awesome, but not practical for 1-2 pieces in a set. That's what that thread is about. I'm proposing a 2-piece design that would fit comfortably in a wicked additions pack and would look consistent with the rest of the caverns/water set. I feel that making a piece that can be moved behind really limits its utility more than adding to it. Anyway, isn't the passage behind the waterfall a little cliche?

Don't knock a good cliche. Or the chance to turn a cliche on its ear to challenge your party.

A small freestanding waterfall accessory is exactly what I want as one piece of a WA add-on. More complicated solutions can follow as needed.

In the meantime, can this be adapted for a larger, grander waterfall? Not as a permanent solution, just a temporary possible.

I like that Fenryll Waterfall.... Nice.... If I had seen that one I might not have sculpted the one I recently posted....Except that I wanted to have a cavern entrance behind removable Water.

But I very much like that piece.

You have obviously never seen the waterfall on Level 11 of Rappan Athuk, 40' wide and a 220' drop. And yes there is a cave entrance 40' up!

I just saw this waterfall the other day at PetSmart. It comes in two sizes:

Here's the large version of the waterfall

Here's the small version of the waterfall:

@tattooedtoad I really like playing under the earth campaigns and have you ever heard of the game Avernum (originally called Exile)? Basically it is sorta like journey to the center of the earth in that there are huge underground caverns that support a civilization there are even huge rivers and underground seas and even very large waterfalls. It would be useful but only if you are doing sorta of an ENTIRE campaign under the earth like that.

Unpainted resin, two pieces (fall and pool). No idea what type or quality of resin.
