You could, but they wouldn't match up with the shoreline of the cavern tiles or other water tiles as the water part is recessed.

I keep thinking about this and to be honest the more I think about it the less I like the idea. I realize some of you really love the idea, but I keep seeing how hard it will be to insure that both sides lie flat, do not change the height of the tile, and do not overly add to the wear and tear of the tiles. In the end I keep thinking I would rather just keep the single sided tiles.

Just my .02

AnimeSensei, that is a good observation. However, think about this. The gel filters are able to be cut to shape, so theoretically you could cut them to fit the shape of the shoreline and use them as is. Alternatively you could lay them out without floor tiles underneath them. It will take some experimentation for sure. But the filters are inexpensive, and the resulting flexibility may be worth taking some time to figure it out.

I'm in agreement with this.....plus, think about how much of a PITA that would be to sort...

I know there have been a lot of interesting storage solutions put forth by the people on these forums, but for the most part, I sort by set and type. Game Tiles Walls here, Game Tiles flooring here. Doesn't seem like a big deal...until you have multiple sets, and multiple containers.

Where would these get sorted in, exactly?

I also like the tiles being branded on the bottom, having that official DF seal.

This is in addition to the problems already listed.

For 20 years, they have been single sided, and that has suited me just fine. :)

I am starting to flop on my original post

Having a DS water/floor would be great if it weren't for the height not lining up with the sloped shoreline pieces.
All other flaws I could deal with.

However...I DO think a DS floor/floor tile would work. The height would be the same. It would lay flat. And it would allow for custom painting to show lava, ice, slime, gummy bears...whatever.

If ANY piece has the potential to become more versatile... it should be made to so.

The sides of floor tiles are rarely, if ever, visible. And for those rare occasions when a 1/4 inch side is missing a hint of red or blue, I will deal with it... because it would be totally over shadowed by all the highly visible floor tops.

+10 to anyone at the table that even notices....and -20 if they have the nerve to point it out!

Personally, I wouldn't be in favor of double-sided floor tiles. Even if it were possible from a manufacturing standpoint, the sculpts would have to be perfectly flat to keep the floors stable, and I prefer the rough, unevenly carved look of the current tiles. There are lots of times the sides are visible in my setups, as well, such as elevations and negative space uses (to represent pits, etc.). It seems to me the potential problems would outweigh the benefits in most cases.
