Here are photos of the 2"X2" and 2"X4" modular water falls WIP. The decision has been made to go another direction and we have drifted off topic but I thought you might like to see the photo.

I would still be interested in seeing your finished product should you care to share.

That river looks fantastic! So you used that pine bark you talked about earlier? I think down here they use mostly glue and sand for large terrain boards.

Thanks.

I use sand for some things. I like saw dust better.I use styrofoam too. For a game store, plywood and saw dust is better. Four by eight emery boards can cause problems.

With 1-2 gallons of PVA it really doesn't cause an issue. They are not rough to the touch believe it or not. The play sand they use is soft. I have a 50 lb bag.

I really wish you were able to finish your modular set. Your years of experience shows through in the pics you have shared with us.

While your intentions may not be bad, brvheart, I'm hoping you realize how passive aggressive this comes across to another member of this site whom I know you're referring to. These are traditionally pretty polite forums, and I'd hate to see enemies made and negativity come to reside here.

And yes, Oldmanwillow is pretty awesome! But let's not passively attack someone behind a compliment to someone else.

Yeah, that post kind of baffled me too, I really don't see the point in it.

Fact is, if you're not making something to mass produce and sell, you have a lot less concerns and a lot more flexibility with your creations. There are a few things I've sculpted myself that I like better than similar things being sold here, but that's because I didn't have to worry about having to make molds of my sculpts, or worry about undercuts or anything else that Stefan has to worry about when making sure a piece can be mass produced. And the stuff available here is of such high quality I've relegated my sculpting to just making pieces that I can't get here. (I'll be making a floor tile piece that matches the top of a C corner piece for instance for stacking since I don't see an equivalent.)

And of course, having seen photos of some of Stefan's non-Dwarven Forge work, it's far beyond what I'm currently capable of making. The guy is beyond talented.

And of course, I too agree Oldmanwillow's work here is awesome, and deserves much kudos. But it's certainly unfair to use it as a springboard to backhandedly criticize someone else's, especially without understanding the limitations one has to work with when making a piece mass-producible.

The fact is that Stefan gave the people what they wanted... a waterfall piece in Wicked Additions! I for one am thrilled by that piece.

I don't think that precludes the idea of a Waterfall Set being offered as an add on in the future. The ideas put forth and refined in the various waterfall threads are all fodder for Stefan to draw from if (dare i say when...) the day comes that he decides it is time for a truly grand waterfall pack. Big kudos to all whose ideas and creativity work together to help shape the future.

Just to fuel the design of water falls, here are some oldish posts from Crioux in case some of you missed them:

Stefan shared this photo on Facebook. It illustrates his approach to moving behind or through the waterfall. It is going to be very versatile. It can be flanked by the stairs or elevation blocks or walls. You can even combine it with the narrow passage for a passage under the falls.

I would also like to point out the Polyfiber used as spray. If you coat it with gloss Mod Podge or Water Effects and some paint you can no doubt make effective water spray. There is no reason you can not make it modular.
I am going to work this out so I can be ready with paint tips when the tiles arrive. Your thoughts?

I always have liked Ciroux's Hirst Arts cave falls. It will be possible to have a similar effect by flanking Stefans design with the elevations or walls. A cascade could be created by using shorter sections of Water Effects as well.
I am looking forward to painting the new sets.

Stefan's design also looks like two or more waterfalls can go side by side fairly seamlessly, for those who want a long wall of water.

I look forward to your ideas and painting tips Oldmanwillow. Stephan's has the advantage of being simple, but I understand the limitations of what can be mass produced in a WE set. Maybe it will grow more on me. Often they do when they arrive.

@Oldmanwillow - I am eager to hear about the process you develop for coating the Polyfiber. I had not considered making modular spray before. That has nearly a dozen applications right off the top of my head. I am very excited by the possibilities. Thanks again for taking the time to share your expertise and photos.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...
