Wicked Addition Conceptual Sketch 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Ok, so I didn't let any idea escape me when I was thinking about my Wicked Addition ideas for submittal. Although, it would probably be more appropriate to call this the Caverns Waterfall pack. I hope I can intrigue Zaltar enough to see if this might be a possibility. It was simply easier to mock up a sketch rather than to put it all into words for the submittal form. Let me know what you guys think.

This seems like a fantastic idea! Because of the number of pieces involved, it sounds like this waterfall concept would be an add on?

One concept I've seen a few people bouncing around is of a more "stepped" waterfall that perhaps runs at a 45 degree angle similar to something like this:

This isn't nearly as impressive or dramatic as the concept you've illustrated, but it does mean that you'd probably only need 1 or two pieces to accomplish it. It would essentially be like a stairs piece made of water and rock. I guess if you went this route, you could also make curved areas and have a kind of meandering waterfall type setup. Might be interesting...

Thanks! I also like that idea of the stepped falls--I can see both as options.

I'll add a description of the sketch below:

The base waterfall pack would consist of 6 unique pedestal size tiles--3 of which would be slightly larger (2"x2"x2"). The set would have a Top Section (1 Left Waterfall Block, 1 Middle Waterfall Block, and 1 Right Waterfall Block), and a Mid Section (1 Left Block, 1 Middle Block, 1 Right Block). Alternative Middle blocks could be developed if it made sense and wasn't cost prohibitive.

These blocks would seamlessly blend with the Water Cavern Pack whether using them at a high elevation or a multi-tier setup. The Mid Section blocks could be used at the bottom of the falls (saving money and maintaining modularity), and Bottom Section accessory rocks could be placed at the foot of the falls adjacent to the blocks and on top of the Water Cavern tiles as a nice touch.

This pack is extremely modular and has the real estate for some great aesthetics. The potential is great for many awesome looking configurations--wide falls, narrow falls, multiple falls, multi-tier falls, long falls, short, etc. I would expect the cost to be on the higher side, but not out of range for DF products. The concept would work equally well with the Lava River Tiles too.

I like your concept. I wanted to work on something for my Hobbit collection involving the water gate and cascade. That will be a good way to make it modular. I hope everyone likes the idea as much as I did.

I am impressed with your concept sketches. The issue, for me, is the number of tiles needed and the fact that you are then using solid blocks as waterfall pieces.

I personally prefer the stepped waterfall. It makes the 'waterfall' a sculpted rock formation piece that you can get painted and glossed to make it look like water is pouring over, or, if you're like me and want to do all the painting and water effects then you can do that as well.

Thanks! I don't mind having a variety of options including the stepped waterfall.

This block setup allows one to put together a waterfall with as little as 2 blocks (short and narrow falls) or as many as one wants. The Top Tier Waterfall blocks would have a pronounced convex curve that would diminish any sort of blockiness except for the extreme edges of the Left and Right Blocks. They can come unpainted and gamers can paint either a water or lava color scheme.

The block set up would allow a shorter cascade block to be set up in front as well. They could be stacked to create a very impressive display. A sound design. Good idea.

I like it. I would also like to see a rubble collapsed tunnel - as if a cave in happened and the passage is blocked. It would work great as both a dead end AND as a way to force the party forward. :)

@Superjman,

Your waterfall system is neat and your concept drawings are very well done. The only problem I see is the cost per mold issue versus the general lower mass-appeal of such product.
