TOPIC: The NEXT kickstarter?! Number 3!
#63764
Re:The NEXT kickstarter?! Number 3! 4 Months, 1 Week ago
The guard house sits empty. The morning had come and the Sargent had found none of his men there. After checking at a few of the taverns and soup houses he realizes that something is very wrong. Reporting his men's absence to his Captain, they travel back to the guard house with a few other guards to investigate. As they enter the captain notices the smell of the sewers. Like many of the guard houses in the city, this one guards one of the sewer gates and has doors that close off the smell. The men's beds show that they had slept in them but do not look like they were slept in till morning. Something must have awoken the men and prompted them to open the two locked door ways to investgate.

Fearing something more fowl that his young city guards can handle the Captain enlistees the help of a party of adventurers who happen to be in town at the moment. These are the same adventures who had cleared out the sewers from the deadly invasion of fire breathing giant dire blink rats two years ago.

Donning their cloaks of Elven forest freshness (Hey you fight the army of Dwarven ghasts and you would have had them made also) to ward off the sewer stench, the party heads under ground. The party quickly notices that the sewers are almost dried up, that there is no river of water carrying the grey water and sewage away. Up hill the party discovers a half starved lizard folk who quickly retreats deeper in to the sewers.

Just having fun thinking about Sewers and MBS in game play.

Maybe I am reading into this what I want, but did you make sewers with only four tiles?
1- Curved wall /floor (admittedly flat on back, so when used as a wall, it needs bracing)
2- 1" by 2" floor
3- Curved wall with circular hole
4- Curved wall with square opening (for door or turn)
In a crunch you could get away with two tiles: curved wall/floor and 1" by 2" floor.

Which means if Kickstarter3 was a "Medieval Buildings" theme, sewers could be a two tile bonus to the MBS since the 1" by 2" could also be sidewalks/alleys. Or maybe an Add-on with the full four tiles. With other urban stuff such "grassy commons", fences, outhouse, sheds, etc. This could be a halfway decent KS3.

I was always assuming sewers would need lots of tile types, but maybe not.

OK, you used other "curved" wall/sewer tiles, but you could have gotten away with only a few tile types.

Stefan had done some sculpts for sewers and put them up for us to see. He never really said when he was going to do them or that he was going to do them in Dwarvenite. The original comments from him pointed toward resin, I just happen to think they would be great in Dwarvenite and now feel that as part of a Sewers/MBS KS they would be fantastic.

Here biowizard comments on the lip

I believe those are teaser pics released a while back. By my count, there are at least 6 different tiles there.

1. Sewer Wall
2. Sewer Wall with Round Opening.
3. Sewer Wall with Buttresses
4. Sewer Wall with Square Opening (or Half Sewer Wall?)
5. Half Floor Tile
6. Straight Sewer Channel
7. Curved Sewer Channel

Like some others, I agree that a dedicated sewer KS would not be appealing to me. Those sewer teaser pics just look too similar to the dungeon tiles we already have. Both have repeated, regular, rectangular stones as their primary design. I'm sure the sewer tiles would look good, but I'd prefer something that's more visually distinct than the game tiles we already have.

For the record - i WANT sewers!

If they decide to tack Medieval buildings along with them thats fine, but PLEASE do not let sewers get lost in the noise, or become merely an add on to something else. There is WAY too much potential for sewers: Large round room that multiple sewers enter into, Grates that fit over the sewers to link them to the streets above (with iron ladder), Raised doorways to service corridors (transition to dungeon tiles), Retention pools, and much much more.

I have run a half a dozen different modules and adventures in recent memory that involved sewers and if i had the tiles i would seek out more. These are one of the most classic adventure areas and deserve to get their just due.

I like the lip. I see the advantages of Bio's design, but i think the lip makes the set distinctive.

I don't think they look like Dungeon tiles. I think the sculpting here is nicer and the stones look smoother and more age worn. I would also hope that if this set is done, that it be done in a cobblestone/brick type color. That would make it distinct from the existing product and give it a unique feel. With a bit of imagination, these could also be used above ground as brick first stories for houses if someone was trying to build a village of diverse houses. Imagine how cool it would be to have Dungeon blocks, Cobble stone bricks and flat stacked shale (not to mention round fieldstone of the MasterMaze) to go along with daub&wattle!

I believe the phrase Stefan used to describe the intended sewer finish was "dark and slimy".

I will probably buy whatever DF makes. I like Bio's design a lot.
This is what I think of as a fantasy sewer.

I would be very excited to see sewers almost as excited as seeing the cavern ks. These are my favorite rpg adventure locations. @stefan if possible could we see a sewer arched roof add on. I would like to remove sewer roofs section by section while players look into the deep sewer passage ends wondering what is down each section. I could just place cloth over them but actual sewer arched roofs would be amazing for visual appeal and you could actually stack city streets and drains above. Just imagine a cobblestone street with a sewer grate and adventuring party descending a ladder from an arched sewer roof into the sewer below. Wow that wouldbe amazing.

Great sewers would have visually interesting intersections arches drains grates water flowing over short drop offs ect.

That makes me think of in ghostbusters 2 when they broke into the slime chamber and saw it went into some old sewer looking thing I think something like that would be cool a very decorative central piece with arches and things like that!

I have no interest in medieval buildings. I'd prefer the focus stay on dungeon settings like KS1 and KS2.

I realize each has their own style of play, but dungeon crawling is so much a part of the game that I just don't see the practical application for buildings. In my group I *might* pull something like that out once or twice a year and that wouldn't justify the cost or time in painting.

Personally, I'd like to see sewers that are compatible with KS1 and add further value to that set or catacombs.

Again, just my 2cp.
