TOPIC: The NEXT kickstarter?! Number 3!

Re:The NEXT kickstarter?! Number 3! 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
For me there was never any option in my mind other than buildings.

This also seems to be the "common" request.

The base set would need to represent the most needed building types.

This could be a revamp of taverns/inns, or wood & stone to represent villages & barns.

I personally would like upscale pieces to build castles...

... one light color scheme to represent the "good guys", and one dark color scheme to represent, well, you get the idea...

Talk of an MBS in Dwarvenite terrifies me, for one reason:

That is one set I was planning on getting in June, in resin.

I would honestly be pretty upset if I dropped 300 + T&S on 2 MBS sets in resin to have, a year later, KS3 for the MBS, which I would actually prefer.

Sewers.....that could be very interesting, especially now that we just got shown that water is doable in Dwarvenite.

If Stefan does new sculpts for the MBS in a Sewers/MBS KS then owners of the resin would have the best of both worlds for making towns and villages. They could use resin for some buildings and Dwarvenite for others making their village look more real(not all the same).

Yeah, I am with Kodiakbear...

IF and it is a big if, but IF KS 3 is Midieval Buildings, they almost need to be daub & wattle. A quick look at historic architecture shows me two things... 1) the bulk of what you see is D&W or Stone and 2) the D&W is way more visually interesting than anything else you see (especially when you consider that we are probably just looking at walls, not eaves gables and roofs...). The good news is there is a LOT of variety out there and it would be really easy to make something visually distinct from the existing MBS that would compliment and not detract from it.

I am of the opinion the after Stefan is finished sculpting the Wicked Additions, that he & Lulu spend a month or two in Europe doing "research" so he can fine tune his ideas. Perhaps Jeff & family should spend some time abroad too, so that come the next KS, everyone is on the same page. It is onerous work, but someone has to do it ;)

See my post here with a bunch of links to KSes creating mats for gaming...

... and yes, that pic is a real painted resin piece.

The mats are crap in comparsion to DF 3D terrain and the other is resin.

I am so spoiled by the Dwarvenite that they aren't really an option (and if there will be a medieval building set in Dwarvenite, I am ditching my resin sets).

Medieval Buildings for KS3 FTW!

i don't care what Df chooses for the next KS, I just hope it is 18 months off. expenditure of around $1,300 in KS1 and KS2 in less than a year is a strain (for me)

and while MBS are cool, I sure won't need five sets (like my previous 2 ks). I cannot think of one adventure I have tun in the last that had anything more than a tavern that the players needed.

Of course I do find it amusing that we are discussing KS3, when caverns are still are six months away and we have barely got six months use out of our Game tiles. :D

I would definitely be in for an MBS set in dwarvenite. I would actually prefer to see that as the next one.

For streets and squares and such... I would hesitate to ask DF to go there. There are so many cheap options for streets and squares on the market that are actually pretty nice that I think it is saturated. My wife even bought me felt backed latex in a pack that had two strips over a foot long from the dollar store. For a dollar! They were gone when we got back. If they get them again I will buy them all. One was a brick lane and the other was a stone lane. Lemax is another source for those as well. I've seen their stuff 70% off at Michaels post holiday. It is all pretty durable and flexible.

I can agree with TK that I would love a little extra breathing room. At least wait until tax season in the US next year, but a wee bit more time would not hurt. I do hope to buy some MBS in resin come summer. I will buy some regardless of the next KS most likely. As others have said, it makes sense to make the dwarvenite version different but compatible. That way you can have more variety if you own both.

If they do sewers, I would probably back at two sets. I might do some addons. I'd still want them, but I wouldn't invest very heavily.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

If all they've ever been is in a tavern then you have to step up your GM'ing game and spending habits! ;-)

You could build a story around having to retrieve an item from some alchemist's shop in town... maybe it's predicated upon some encounter in the marketplace or during a public hanging in the town square. I have all sorts of links to places that sell marketplace stuff, buildings, walls, gallows, fountains, alchemist lab, etc.

Obviously you wouldn't be able to build this exactly, but I'd like them to have this kind of feel. This is the type of architecture I like to fill my fantasy towns with

they have been in a few place that could use a city, but nothing that I cannot build with Game Tiles. the last three time I did a village/city build player were there for maybe 20 minutes of game table time, then off to the dungeons.

we play a very old school dungeon crawl, If my players spend too much time in town, the want to ransack it and then we have the "but you are a good alined character" convo for the next 1/2 hour. :D

I am in no way saying that the next KS should not be MBS, just my gaming style doesn't use much of that. I feel the same way about the parallel discussion in another thread on outdoor sets. I would rather just use my green felt, mini trees and the tones of other outdoor accessories available in droves.

Edit: and I will up my spending habit, once my wallet recovers and you open up your ESTY store :D. between you, Kebblerorc and Griffin Tamer, but budget is going to get stretch even further this year. :D

I would like the village set In PVC.
I would probably only add two sets because I already have so much.

With narrow passage as basement.

I start the Dungeon in town. The smugglers cove leads through the cavern to the inn. The players can get items ID'ed in the scholars office next to the Inn. I use lots of narrow passages and secret doors. No reason the whole town can not be linked with sewers and secret passages.

Most of my in town stuff is talky roleplay that i don't need terrain for (not uncommon for players to hit 10 different places in a night, shopping chasing down info etc.) I build the taverns and temples and the like where encounters are going to happen. Occasionally there will be a Manor House that needs investigating or what not.

I would likely not need as many buildings as i would sewers so hopefully the next KS will bee a little easier on my wallet. Of course that is what i said about Caverns and look how that turned out. If Stefan keeps upping the ante, i am still going to buy in because i don't want to push away from the table!
