Re:Rivers & Lakes 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
he,he...well if you don't mind Bio, I'm going to keep asking for your advice and input, much as how I listen to everyone here, even if we don't always agree....but I think Bio, and a few others have earned my respect as gaming peers and enthusiast with valuable views and takes quite a long time ago:)

Thank you so much for all that you do, your instructionals are always quite enlightening...i also know that every decision i make will be dissected by my fellow piers here... much like when scientists post a paper on black holes and such...

so I understand everything must pass muster, this is the big leagues, not the bush league....

Any idea how the dungeon gray water tiles will look? Is it the paint job making the water part look like that or is it how the tile are created. The other addons I can picture as dungeon gray, but I am struggling visualizing exactly how these will look for some reason. Sorry if this has already been addressed.

They will be the same gray dwarvenite color unpainted.....these prototypes look shiny because they have been glossed....the painted ones you order will also have a similar gloss varnish applied to them...if you get unpainted you can try to add your own resin or magic water stuff, but I actually think just a simple varnish with nail polish or other works great:)

It looks like the edges of the pre-painted R&L tiles are painted to match the surface of the tiles. Where there is stone on top, it continues on the side. Where there is water on top, it continues on the side.

That means we can combine these tiles with Ledge & Crack tiles (fingers crossed for luck) to create waterfalls that disappear down into an abyss, or short drops to colored mats.

The chasm pieces look a little too jagged to make nice looking rivers/lakes... The ones in the photo gallery look a bit smoother. Any hints on whether those will be offered in this KS? Does anyone recognize them as old resin pieces?

Edit: Oh wait, the orange piece is actually the same as the green piece; there's just another piece under it that makes it look weird.

I love the Lava Cavern but the Lava River set, something I am not sure about.

...is it just me - but is The Lava River set painted 'backwards' ??
The Hot Yellow should be more in the middle, away from the cooler edges that will be more red and orange.
(Like the Lava stone floors are. Yellow in the big central pools and red lines running away)

If you do a Google image search for volcano lava river you will see a fair number of pictures in which the edges are yellow and the flow fades to red (and black) towards the center.

Not sure why that is, but it is a real thing.

Stefan and Jeff,

Are you kidding me with this? Lava river set? Where in the heck am I going to come up with the money? I've already blown through my budget for one of everything. There is nothing in this kick starter that I don't want. It's insane! My kids are going to have to get used to Ramen noodles! :)

Seriously though, there is so much cool stuff coming out, I'm so excited. Broke, but excited. I might have to wait till tomorrow night to finalize my pledge, because cool stuff just keeps getting added! I got to get at least one of everything.

Maybe the hotter lava from under the surface rises up along the edges, pushing cooled lava towards the center?

That's what happens when I make oatmeal. :P

We'll call it Shadaraman's Principle. Better yet, we'll call it the Oatmeal Effect.

I think GX.Sigma's got a very valid and worrisome point here. Just look at the following image, the edges look like the teeth from a blade, it's pretty much ragged:

Stefan, in the ks comment section, you eluded to the fact that you might revisit the ratio of chasm pieces and possibly sculpt/release a 4th piece. May I suggest perhaps some more smoothing of the other 3 pieces? I know you're in the final stretch of the ks but please do the usual DF: release the best possible product when the dust settles...
