I will give them this yes the spider web does seem cheap, but we did get 1 small stair last KS for $1,100,00, so not disappointed. They don't have to give us stuff for free, that is their choice to hope we will spend more $. I personally like the free stuff, but want to spend more $$ on add-ons, even if it's an add-on for pieces we've already got.

I would be more than glad to take your webs off your hands. I thnk they could be fun to use. But as they say, to each their own. :-)

my only issue with spider webs is I only have one spider miniature. he is going to be very busing making all those webs.

on the other the hand, seeing the elevation pieces in the last pic of the spiderweb link was awesome. that is the add on I hope we get to. my players will freak when they see setup like that. depending on what they have I can see a bare minimum of of 2 elevation pack (if we get to them)

Free stuff is a bonus for backers, yes, but it's also an enticement for more backers. I've no illusions about the nature of Kickstarters. I wouldn't be backing things if I didn't believe in them, and thus I want them to succeed to the fullest of their potential.

If we're comparing this KS to the previous, last time at the one million mark, the basic set was up to 65 pieces. There were 4 add-on packs unlocked, plus the Map Maker. That was 16 SGs. Currently, for this one million mark, the basic set will be up to 42 pieces and there's one add-on unlocked, plus an update for the Map Maker. We're currently on the 11th SG.

Last time, all but 3 of the 23 possible SGs unlocked a free addition to the base set. We've already seen 2 out of the 11.

There's no doubt that the bang for pledged buck this time around is reduced. But should that be a surprise? We've already been told that this particular terrain is more expensive. (And I've no doubt about that) That's clearly covered in the prices of the base sets, too. We also don't know what lessons were learned during the last KS. Maybe we were spoiled last time around?

That said, in the whirlwind of that first day, we buzzed past a lot, and now that we've slowed down, the enticements for further pledges could be more exciting. I'm not complaining about free stuff - I'm thinking about what will bring in the most pledge money, and make this the most successful it can be.

In my opinion, the upgrade to the Map Maker should have been paired with a free piece to the base set. (The spider web, perhaps?) The Map Maker, regardless of it's popularity with certain demographics, is a bit of a nebulous thing. The Narrow Passage Pack, while no providing anything free, is expanding options and giving people reason to jump on and spend more. Say what you will, but tangible rewards are a much bigger draw, free or not.

Also, I'd like to throw in my support of the idea of showing at least two locked SGs at all times. If one SG doesn't entice a prospective backer, there's the chance that the other will. Again, it's all about maximizing enticement.

I'll throw my voice in here as well... 100K in pledges to get the web? I am worried that the web is not going to increase the pace of pledging...

I like the web (although i agree with many of the criticisms) and i think it will be a useful and fun addition, but will it get the $$$ rolling in? When the add on was announced (with only a 50K hurdle) we got a big jump right away of folks upping their pledge to get a pack (or two or three...) so we got to the next goal in roughly 24 hours. Now we have a 100K hurdle and i suspect we are going to be seeing the web for 3-4 days before we get more temptation...

A closer look at the web photos reveals lots of goodies! Bring on the excitement!

They spoiled us with a bunch of great stretch goals early, now we have to be patient...

I do think it will help quite a bit if there is at least the current goal we are working on and the following one displaying. As to the spider webs, I mentioned this on the KS comments as well, but we did ask them for spider webs. From what I recall there wasn't really anyone speaking against them originally either. I won't fault them for delivering on what several of us asked them for. A few folks have compared them to dollar store products, but I honestly think they look better than any plastic webs I have seen amongst the toys or Halloween goodies except for one that came with a pricey spidey figure. I wasn't willing to buy the figure for the web, in case anyone was wondering...

I do get that some people aren't thrilled with them, I just appreciate that Jeff and Stefan are listening to us here on the forums and trying to deliver. Hopefully the next few reveals get more universal acclaim. Previous KS experience tells me though that even if they reveal a real pet dragon at least one person is guaranteed to whine!

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

I can only assume that it would be too expensive to keep adding more pieces (both in terms of making new molds, and manufacturing/shipping more Dwarvenite), so they're using a low-cost item to tide us over to the next big thing.

They add more when they need more. It's an 'artificial scarcity' tactic that I don't really agree with myself, but it helps generate pledges so... whatever.

Actually, I doubt that this is the explanation.

Surely they have a finite number of pieces that they can deliver by the expected shipping date. If they allocated all of them to various pledge levels up-front, then it would be inevitable -- when all was said and done -- that they would certainly have over-allocated to some pledge levels, and under-allocated to others. This would be a business error -- misaligning production with demand -- and it would disappoint some customers (also not ideal).

Instead, I believe that they allocate an initial amount to each pledge level, and they hold some in reserve. As pledges reach the limit for some pledge levels, they commit some of their reserve in those areas. Don't forget that add-on packs will also consume production capacity, so as they dangle add-on sets, and watch pledges shift accordingly, surely they will also estimate how many add-on packs they have committed to, and decrement their production reserve capacity accordingly. This would be totally appropriate risk mitigation, and frankly it would be irresponsible for them _not_ to do this.

DF just don't strike me as the "artificial scarcity" types.

All

I just did this table and posted it on the KS board. What does it tell? The SG, at which amount it got unlocked and at which day of the KS. There is no 1:1 comparison as KS1 was 37 days, KS2 is 28 (yes - I do Kicktraq days that make half a first and half a last day into 2 days).
So the biggest issue is - despite starting at an amount that had unlocked 2 SG goals in the first KS that we blew past 7 SGs on day 1. And there wasn't even a single day without SG.

Goal 50 1 100 1
SG1 75 1 150 1
SG2 100 1 225 1
SG3 150 2 300 1
SG4 200 2 375 1
SG5 250 3 450 1
SG6 325 5 550 1
SG7 400 8 650 1
SG8 475 12 750 2
SG9 550 17 850 3
SG10 600 19 900 4
SG11 650 20 1000 ?
SG12 700 23
SG13 750 24
SG14 825 27
SG15 900 29
SG16 1000 31
SG17 1100 33
SG18 1225 34
SG19 1350 35
SG20 1500 36
SG21 1650 37
SG22 1800 37

Alright, I've had a nights sleep and a snickers bar and I'm more positive today. Since it is clear the Jeff and Stephen have been listening to the forums (the spider web was a request)I hope they are listening when many of us are saying (please) for the next few goals, can we cut the amounts to the next goal down a little ($75k?) and give us more pieces of molds already paid for?

I for one would be very grateful for a $1,075,000 goal with 4 straight walls, or corners, or whatever. You do have to admit that once the mold is paid for, a production run of 50,000 vs. 55,000 pieces is not incrementally that expensive. once they have the machines set and tooled the extra plastic, and labor are the only incremental costs. I am not in production, I'm in Telecom, but the theory is sound, and I have a couple of friends from college that work in the industry and I was talking with them about this and they agreed.

In any case, I'm still going to pledge my $1,000 and if things start really picking up I may do another $500.

Jeff / Stephen Thank you for everything you guys are doing, sorry I was so negative yesterday.

Time for coffee and the funny's

I just had a friendly groan after reading Keeblerorc's 'joke' (in the loosest meaning of the word) ;) & then went on to Refresh the KS page (like we are all doing right now) and it seem that not only are we 'Stuck' with the 'web' - The total Pledge looks stuck today... It has been at 904k / 906k the whole day. We even went out and did the weekly shop, all now neatly packed away.... Refreshed once more.....
Nothing.

I wish the Web had been released about 3 FREE items back so that we would have already skipped on past that one and all now be staring & lusting over the fabulous 'dead end' piece. The 'web' is certainly no advert for what is to come & has dominated this weekends hopefuls. It is great that it is 'free' and I will certainly use them at some point.... (At the moment I use that 'fine white webbing' you get tons off in a bag for £1 at Halloween) but I remember that I felt the same way I do today over the 'Barrels' in the last KS. Nice to have, but nothing special, nothing special in that there are tons of other companies that make 'stuff' - but only DF can sculpt dramatic and fantastic 3D terrain that can be used in so many combinations. Thats what I want from DF. Items that showcase products no one else does or can do.

I am looking forward to the 1 million mark. I really hope that is before next weekend...
