Sounds like many need treatment for Anxiety Disorders.... I remember the first DF KS from the first day and it was never a problem to me.... I remember a bunch of people on the KS Forum that only got in because it was a 30 day event and they didn't even hear about it till the last few days to a week.

It was exciting from day one... I didn't get that from other KS listing with other companies. I have had this same discussion with other friends... 14 day verse 30 or even 45 day Kick Starters... every bodies got an opinion and one works for one person better than another, I just believe that 30 days is a fair length of time...
I remind most of my 14 and 21 day opinionated real life friends that they didn't even know about the First DF KS until the last week then there is a moaning silence.

What ever Stefan decides to do I'm fine with

I am hoping for a very short KS period, less than 25 days if possible.

It is very likely that this KS will have a similar arc, with a big opening, a very weak middle and a strong finish. Say $600,000 in the first 48 hours and $1.6M for a final number. I am expecting the final number to be less than Game Tiles 1 because I have spoken with several people bought a lot of tiles in first Kickstarter ($1,400 worth for me) and are going to cut back in the second one ($750-$1000 depending on just how good it is).

So I hope this Kickstarter is short so we don't have that long period in the middle where sales get really slow, unlocks are many days apart and people start to worry about the deal not being as good as they hope it will be.

George

I am hoping for a KS that's the same length as the previous one. 30 days does two things, IMHO, 1. It provides time for people to get their financing together and 2. It allows for people who are late to the party the time to find out about it... which brings me to the point that I think it's very important to have a marketing plan to spread the word. There are many very popular blogs and podcasts for roleplaying that would be happy to be approached to do an interview. I would time them for the start of the KS (or just before the start) to drum up the initial enthusiasm as well as at the middle low-point that seems to be typical to get momentum going again.

As for the above quote, you can put me down as someone who wants to actually double my number of sets from the first one from 5 to 10, if I can finance it (see point #1 ;-) ). All the caverns my characters have adventured in end up having at least one monstrous 'room'/area, so I'm kinda hoping to be able to represent that properly. :-)

If it is less than thirty days I will not be able to pledge as much with how my finances work out. I will be pledging either way, it is just a matter of quantity. I would also like to ask again for something I requested earlier: Official fliers we can download and print out, preferably with a QR code that people can scan to link to the KS page. These would do wonders if we can persuade local shops to let us hang them up. In several shops no one in the building knew about the first one until I mentioned it to them. A flier can do that work the entire time the shop is open!

I would love to see this one exceed the first one. Stefan and Jeff, any chance of an official flier or two? If not, would you mind allowing one of the faithful fans (read: addicts) to make something we can all print off to post up? I am pretty sure I can get permission from my school to put a few up on boards. It is a statewide community college and I can get easy access to three or four of their campuses... graphic design is not my bailiwick, anything I could make there is guaranteed to be someone on here who can make a better one.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

I would think longer is better. Yes, people get anxious during the middle lull, but that is still time in which funds are raised and stretch goals unlocked before the big finish. I think it should be assumed that you will raiser less money if you go with a shorter campaign.

Either way, it will be a good deal and I will be jumping in. I just think the deal gets better if the campaign runs long enough to give every one a better chance to jump in and not miss the opportunity.

When things slow down during the 10-14 days in the middle, just remember, patience young grasshopper, patience...

A flyer is a great idea. I'd be in to create one, provided we got DF's blessing. I do graphic design and mutlimedia work for a living so I have all the necessary software.

In order to get momentum going again during the mid-period lull of a kick starter can surprise add ons be thrown in so-to-speak?

i don't mind what they do. I got in on the last KS on Day 4. it was a blast seeing it take off over the next month. one advantage of it lasting so long was I swore at the beginning it was going to be 5 unpainted set ($260) and that was it. by the end, my spouse was agreeing that we had to get 6 add on and of course we had to have one of them be the painted COS. ($490 in the end)

on the down side, my sons and I were going nuts checking KS everyday....about 20 times.

Affording peanut butter and jelly is not the problem its eating it out of the jars with only free standing walls cause you had to sell you silverware and can't afford bread. ;)
