I've been reading The Hobbit to my students for 18 years and I and many of them (who have commented) were disappointed as well.

nothing finalized yet....but special color schemes seem likely...

It's very complicated....packing these cavern Pieces will be much more costly as they are not so uniform...also the molding process is more expensive because of all the raised detail...sliding molds were needed on many....but I just could not get myself to sacrifice any detail...I actually made MORE detail....lol....

I hope you guys as collectors will appreciate the fine details and consider that it will be worth it to pay a bit more for such awesome caverns which are way harder to make than flat walls...

we are also including a boat load of stretch goals and add ons after reading a "book" full of wishes from all our dedicated followers....I traveled to Indiana, Kentucky, and Wiltshire, UK and worked with two other master sculptors to make sure this was all done to perfection:)

This is the MOST expensive production we have ever made in 18 years at the forge and I might say, it's the best! At the same time we have ordered a huge shipment of Resin restocks for all our dedicated fans:)

All is Good:)

We are almost there!

sliding molds?

But the Monster Manual has their movement at 0 ;)

Great updates Stefan!

Very excited to see the new pieces...

I was not a fan of the new Hobbit movies either in comparison to how well done the LOTR movies were done... The Hobbit seems much lighter fare.

Smaug himself however is amazing.

I am very excited to hear that an actual Dwarven Forge is under construction! lol

I actually found myself searching the website wondering why there wasn't a Dwarven Forge piece...

It's funny how sometimes the most obvious things take a while to materialize! Perhaps now the time is right for such a piece.

Thank you for all the detail in the new pieces as well!

Of course The Hobbit movies are much lighter fare than The Lord of the Rings movies.

The Hobbit is a short novel written for tweens, while The Lord of the Rings is three long volumes written for adult readers.

A cogent point jackattack.

I was actually referring to the lack of attention to detail in editing (painfully obvious wire work for the female heroine)... the mediocre plot... The forced romance... the lack of any sort of character progression (aside from the absurd additional scenes for the dwarves)... Laketown politics (with no progression), the untimely ending... lol

Again... Smaug himself was amazing.

To be more clear it was the 2nd film that I particularly found lacking.

JasonYoung,

I'd say you pretty much nailed it.

And Smaug was indeed amazing, though curiously ineffectual.

But the dwarves, now... as portrayed in the Hobbit films, even goofy Dori or Nori could've wiped the floor with Spiderman without breaking a sweat.

And Legolas, why, he could probably take on the entire heroic population of the Marvel Universe singlehandedly.

Alas.

In the battle of the Elephonts Legolas showed that elves can be like a force of nature in battle, It worked.

In the orc battle just outside of the Elf Castle Legolas showed that elves can be like a force of nature in battle, It did not work. Perhaps Legolas should have been show more like he was in the battle just before the fellowship split apart. But in hollywood today the name of the game is out do what you did before. BIGGER FASTER GROSSER MORE MORE. I enjoyed both Hobbit movies but when I get second on disc I will fast forward through that battle and a few other places.

I actually also had a problem with how Jackson portrayed LOTR battles...over the top...I would have preferred battles more like as in Excalibur...but it was fine...except at the end of the Return of the King when all those green "video game like" ghosts just washed over everything....and Legolas's killing of the Oliphant was kind of absurd...why did all the battles have to be SO absurd? All the other parts of the movies were so good....he handles action scenes terribly IMHO...they should have been more "realistic" or "historical" feeling...if he had done that, the whole trilogy would have been EVEN better...I would not be surprised If one day, someone tries to make another LOTR movie, more down to earth, if you know what I mean...

Stefan,

I agree completely on your take on LOTR. It works so well in so many ways because it feels so real, so much like a version of some (really awesome) history; when that falls apart in over-the-top action sequences, it becomes much harder to believe. I can accept a few amazing feats by heroes-- Aragorn and Legolas are a little superhuman, after all-- but I draw the line at hobbits and dwarves doing super-superhero stuff. I guess Jackson was just having a little too much fun. (Myself, I seriously envy the guys at WETA workshop getting to work on creating that world.)

Jimibones83,

My strategy was a little different. I only had enough for five sets... so I convinced my brother he needed five too... and my friend... neither of whom had ever done miniature gaming before... : ) We're all happy now.
