Painting my Dungeon Tiles 12 Months ago
Hey guys,

I have always loved Dwarven Forge products and have drooled over them for years but alas they were out of my price range, that is of course until the Dungeon Tile kickstarter and I jumped on board as quick as I could.

I ended up with 5 sets plus a bunch of add ons and I am starting to paint them all up and thought I would share some of my colours and thoughts. Being in Australia I was unable to add the official paint range to my order which would have saved some trouble with trying to get a nice colour pallet.

Firstly I base coated my tiles with Army Painter Matt Black Base primer as suggested in the painting section of this website. I found the tiles hold paint really well and dry very quickly which is fantastic

The base colour I used for my tiles is Greycoat Gray in Privateer Presses P3 paint range. It's a nice dark grey to start off with and I sort of do a heavy dry brush/wet brush technique on these to really coat the tile but to also leave the black of the undercoat in all the crevasses.

Individual stones were picked out with Battle Dress Green also from the P3 paint range to add some contrast to all the grey and its as close a colour as I could guess from the photos I have seen of the officially painted tiles.

My 1st dry brush I used Trollblood Highlight from P3 paints to blend in the colours and it's a nice dirty grey which I think works nicely on stone work.

My last dry brush uses Weatherd Stone from Reaper's Master Series Paints. I just use this sparingly to lighten up the edges and any raised areas on the tiles.

And that's it. I must say I am impressed and how nicely these tiles hold paint, you can be fairly rough with them while dry brushing and I have yet to see any paint removed from the tiles. The quick drying factor is also impressive as I could handle the tile constantly while painting different areas without having to worry about smudging the paint. Over these tiles are fantastic excellent work Dwarven Forge you have really made a fantastic and affordable product and made this old DM a very happy man.

So far I have painted one of the core sets (except for the doors which I will paint in one big batch)

Here are some photos of the final product and me mucking around with some minis.

Enjoy

Nice painting on both Game Tiles and minis. Could you tell us where this big worm is from?

Thank you.

The worm is from GaleForce Nine's Dungeons & Dragons collector's series, it's a very nice mini.

Thanks for the welcome Stefan and thanks to everyone for the kind words.

I'm still busy painting the rest of my tiles. Can't wait to use them in a game.
