You only need 40 molds if you only put a single piece on any given mold, and we know that a mold can hold up to three castings. I don't think they all have to be the same piece.

Question about a mold holding up to three castings.

Can these be big pieces like the corner wall with floor or only small pieces like door units?

Honestly don't know. But I included figures for two pieces per mold as well. And my point remains, that the development costs for making molds probably aren't quite as high as the original posts made them out to be.

I agree that mold cost estimates are often guesstimates.

Interesting speculation here...I'll spill some beans...currently the most challenging part is the thickness of the walls and avoiding undercuts while still making them look like Caverns

I wonder if the slight bowing on the 4x6 floor pieces will effect any of the ideas Stefan has for Caverns.

Funny how when Stefan said cavern tiles would be 2x2 we were all trying to stretch it (perhaps this particular piece could be made longer...). Now that many of us have experience with the limitations of the material first hand, perhaps we will accept the wisdom of the sculptor ;)

I agree we need to accept their wisdom but also wonder if the manufacture could change a few things and get a 4x6 without the bowing if caverns needed a 4x6 for any reason.

Also kodiakbear, a bit of bowing would to many be less offensive in a cavern floor, which is after all theoretically natural and irregular. Though as you say the issue might very well be fixable by a minor sizing tweak.

"Some of the colors we currently have will be useful, black and white for sure... but we will probably also add some more colors...my goal is to match up color wise with the Original Resin cast dungeons so if you already own those these smaller 2" x 2" pieces will match up well with those so you an mix and match the two lines seamlessly...obviously a smaller footprint will allow you greater design flexibility such as matching existing commercial module's...we may do different color schemes during the kickstarter...not sure yet, perhaps those will be stretch goals...we have many awesome stretch goals planned...I hope everyone has been hoarding coins...so far we have 11 basic original cavern shapes....and making more...." - Stefan

Well, well, well... looks like I was close! :)

I suspect that giving the 4x6 pieces more support so the void doesn't drag the edges in while cooling would do the trick.

Have the underside resemble 6 2x2 pieces.
