TOPIC: Caverns Kickstarter - Wish List

Re:Caverns Kickstarter - Wish List 1 Year ago
I have lots of ideas about webs.

The cavern walls may be irregular enough that clip-on webs might only work with particular pieces. Given a 2"x2" footprint, straight walls and corners with webs cast directly onto/into the pieces might make nice variants.

Webs can be done as stand-alone pieces, with a wide base and leaning to a point that goes to a point on the top of a wall. Or as triangular pieces that slot between two wall pieces.

Cocooned victims can be done as accessories that lie on the floor, or as columns to represent "hanging" victims.

Webs can also be done as columns and perhaps as freestanding walls.

I think it would be better to do webs, etc. as clip-on or leaning / stand alone rather than cast onto specialty wall pieces, that way they'd be more versatile (and so would the walls; walls with webs can pretty much only be used for a spider lair).

I could imagine lots of things could be done similarly (hanging on walls) for "dressings." There could be chains and shackles; primitive furniture (say an orc's cobbled-together shelf of loot); torches / braziers; crude carvings or ancient monuments.

There could also be a whole series of mining stuff done this way: ladders; pulleys and hoists; tool racks; posts and shorings. These could be paired with carts of ore and shaft openings / dry wells (think of the one Pippin drops a rock down in Moria in LOTR) for a great mine ambience.

If they don't do water tiles in dwarvenite (I don't think they plan to) I plan to buy some dark green/black cloth for my Kraken to come out of in a huge deep cavern adventure.

That'll be frickin sweet. Hope you post some pics. :)

Yea, I don't want spider-webs cast into the pieces. I want them versatile like the current Caverns sets.

I would support separate spider webs also. They are not 100% use pieces.

Generally speaking, I agree that spider webs as accessory pieces would be better. But I also understand that making accessory pieces that work with uniform, even shapes like dungeon tiles is much easier than making accessory pieces that work with uneven shapes and variants like I expect to see with cavern pieces.

Anyway, if Stefan does go for webs, I trust that it will look terrific however he does it.

Some great stuff here! keep em coming! Going to start sculpting soon! I am really really excited to do this with Casey, we may even go to a Cavern in Indiana to get pumped!

Did you have time to visit a cavern for inspiration?

Where I am I have to settle for web pics of caverns.

But what else is needed to make a fantasy cavern look lived in.

What dressing would you want for your caverns?

I was thinking about my suggestion
"pile trash bones,branches,rubble,torn cloth"

If this was done as a one cast it would be less useful than a holey hollow cast of branches and big bones that could have items filling it from the bottom.

Items like

half skeletons
broken pottery
bull and bear skulls
pile of torn hides/cloth
burnt out torches
torn sacks
broken pick
flat dead cat
dead giant spider

If you did not need a big pile of rubble these could be spread out to make a cavern look used.

Plus the holey hollow cast of branches and big bones could be used as a primitive cage.

Agreed.

Resin water effects on flexible DT is a bad idea IMHO. However, having shoreline pieces could double for chasm & shore with the right underlay just as Biowizard has said (and demonstrated!)

I'm not sure it's been pointed out yet, but it looks like its been decided to go for the "shoreline pieces" for the caverns KS! Hooray for more flexibility!

I saw this posted in the comments section of the current KS from 3 days ago:

Jason,
Regarding Rivers and lakes design; we are going to make some pieces like edges so one can put either water looking or lava, or black felt underneath for more versatility and less cost...if you want clear resin water it will have to be in the old style Resin design which is more costly, but which does look better in my opinion...I plan on having both in my own collection, one type for home gaming and one for on the road

Thanks for for posting that, Fu-Man Chu. I don't follow the kickstarter comments, so I would never have seen that.

Nice catch, i too missed that. I troll here regularly, but rarely check the Kickstarter Comments. Someone should tell those folks to come under the tent, it is nice and warm in here ;)
