two sided floors is intriguing...

Not sure it would double the cost - a mold is a mold - unless all 2x2 pieces use the same base plate...

My concern would be with stability and stackability

Still the idea is worth thinking about

Obviously it would all depend on what the mold makers want to charge for it, but I would not think the production of the two sided mold would literally double the costs. It would probably increase them though... I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask the manufacturers of the molds, it could be worth it to make one mold that has double sided pieces in it. As long as the pattern leaves the piece sitting level on either side it could be useful and cool.

I'm sure if it is feasible and can add some usability Stefan will be all over it, if not, we'll understand!

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

We're talking about a cavern floor molds right?

If it were 2 sided, the cavern floor can't really change much because the tiles wouldn't sit flush with the other pieces. So other than straight aesthetics to the look of the piece, I don't see a lot of gain cost-wise versus use.

It's not like he could put a shoreline or stalagmite or one side because it would cause the piece to tilt one way or the other.

Just playing devil's advocate on this. I would always be open to more versatility, but not at the cost of 100% functionality.

[Edit] Paint scheme of Stone one side and ice the other would be a reason to do this that I would get behind

well, an add-on pack could be pillars and upper-level floors. personally, i would thing that a larger 4x6 lattice to stand on top of pillars which could then hold up a group of pieces on the level above, would be awesome.

perhaps we could get some kind of interlocking piece, that could work together to build a larger support for an upper floor? get some hanging stalactites for the 'edge' pieces, then simple supports for the center. maybe a 2x2 X shape that could interlock with fewer pillars needed? get them to dovetail together, standing atop a pillar, and holding a floor on top of each of them.

we have enough creative folk here to sort this idea out, the only real limit is the mechanical limits of the molds and dwarfinite. aside from the edge decor, it wouldn't even need to be painted.

I had thought about the stone on one side and ice on the other option, or perhaps one side with grid style stones and the other side with cavern cracks without grid but the one I figured would be best for this KS would be different grid style stones on each side just for variety.

What made me think they could be done was the Free-Standing Walls from the first KS.

Since I expect the caverns KS to be even bigger than the dungeon KS. I am hoping that by the end, once we have blown past 2 million we will have lots of cavern pieces and free standing walls and river/chasm pieces, so I though what about extra add on pieces (like the dungeon dressing pack). What would be in that?

Of course if they had not all ready been done stalagmites and columns would be shoe ins. And crystals have been mentioned many times also.

But what else is needed to make a fantasy cavern look lived in.

Perhaps

primitive bed rolls (used by humanoids or adventures)

monster/animal bed-nest (with removable collection of large eggs)

burning out fire pit (added red paint for still hot fire)

pile trash bones, branches, rubble, torn cloth (hidden treasure or otyugh)

What dressing would you want for your caverns?

Cracked floor tiles.

One with the crack extending all the way across.
One with the crack coming to a closed point.
One with four cracks meeting in the center.

Put two endpoints together for a small crack.
Put multiple extended together for a long crack.
Use the intersection to make cracks radiating from a central location.

The expertly painted ones might paint the crack black to indicate depth.

We could paint unfinished ones silver or gold to indicate a vein of precious metal, red to indicate a "living" cavern, flourescent green to indicate buried power, or whatever else anyone comes up with.

Spider webs.

And cocooned victims.

And a curled up spider corpse.

What about water floor tiles for wet caverns?

I was hoping for a tile with a crack/hole as a visual marker for a passage to lower cavern levels, so I love the crack idea.

I also love spiders and other web creatures.

Was your idea to have the webs have a sorta c hook shaped clip so they could clip on to any of the cavern walls(or for that matter the dungeon walls also)?

Or did you have another idea for webs?

If they don't do water tiles in dwarvenite (I don't think they plan to) I plan to buy some dark green/black cloth for my Kraken to come out of in a huge deep cavern adventure.
