Even Better:

stalaGmite - G is for ground

stalaCtites - C is for ceiling

This makes the most sense to me. Thanks for that. Now I will remember which is which. ;-)

I'll 3rd the crenelated walls, that's a great idea and yur right it should go with the castle walls pack. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to think of it honestly lol. Good work!

An add-on set that is based on Fingal's Cave in Scotland. It's a sea-cave lined with vertical hexagonal stone columns. (I'd prefer a stone floor.)

Just enough to make a chamber, maybe a freestanding column or two.

I know that this doesn't deal with the tiles, per say... but I would love to see a DF miniature pack for the release of the caverns. Nothing grand, but something like a small rock golem, cave mushrooms, bats and a few toad-like creatures. I would also love some kind of tile piece that has a spider web across it to allow me to block pathways and ensnare my dungeoneers. ;)

I did see Sandra Garrity sculpting a mini that hangs on the wall at Gencon, like a lizard man about to leap off the wall and attack perhaps? I wouldn't mind seeing an add-on pack that includes a few minis, especially something we haven't seen much of, like a guy that can "cling" to the wall maybe...

As for spider webs, one done in the vein of a freestanding wall that can be placed across passages would be cool so we can use it as a removable obstacle, or perhaps a bit more evilly as something that happens after they pass an area...

I would like to see freestanding walls in a translucent or clear for walls of ice, fire, force, etc. Not necessarily as part of this one, but if it fits and they like the idea that works too. I'm not sure how translucent dwarvenite can get, but it would be cool if it can do the job.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

Some great ideas in this thread. Wonderful. I think for myself I would liek to see some elements that allow us to take advantage of negative space. I was very impressed with a few folks showing creative ways to expand the lay outs with negative space. To have offical elements would be great.

I am very hopeful that the cavern KS will include chasm/shoreline edges, to provide transitions to negative space.

As a follow up on the topic of iridescence, the difficulty of it is that it is a thin film property. That is, it is typically a product of 2 different transparent materials adjacent (layered) to one another, each layer having different properties (specifically, indices of refraction).

This is the reason you will see iridescence in an oily puddle during rain at night. The light from the streetlights passes through the oil layer, to the water layer and back. The resulting effect is basically that of a prism (with variable geometry, dependent on the physical geometry and refraction of the two fluids).

My point here regards the thin films. The clear layering is a very difficult process to create in a hand-painted piece. Thus, it is typically approximated by using closely spaced narrow bands of color, that follows the pattern of a prism.

However, it seems like a real iridescent effect could be created by Dwarven Forge, where for most other people or small businesses, it would be out of the question. The antecedent would be the water tiles, which use multiple thin films. Now I know what you are going to say: the water tiles turned into a mess, with warping, an effective product recall, and so forth.

However, my hope is that enough has been learned about the process that it is a viable option for future consideration.

Retaining the integrity of the thin film layers, while permitting the deformation of elastic game tiles, without warping or layer splitting, is out of the question. This is due primarily to costs and material properties (though I would be happy to be proven wrong).

So really, resin is the only viable option here, meaning it is not a good choice for the kickstarter. It would probably require experimentation and testing However, a future cavern set with an array of geothermal elements could be very cool.

Stefan, you have discussed how the two different lines are like Rolls-Royce versus daily bumper car, durability and costs versus beauty. I don't know how practical it is, but it would certainly be beautiful.

As a postscript Fingalis cave is truly inspiring, maybe we could see that in the same set?

Fingal's Cavern (hexagonal basalt columns) pros:

It's a natural underground environment that is very distinct from water-erosion (Caverns) and lava (HellScape) caves.

An unpainted version can be custom painted any color, so crystal caves become a possibility.

It's a match for various crystal rock formation pieces made by various other companies.

It can evoke a natural environment, mystical fae caves, alien landscape, or geoengineered sci-fi tunnels.

Fingal's Cavern (hexagonal basalt columns) cons:

May be too esoteric.

May suffer from (or create) brand dilution for underground environments.

May spark interest in muliple transparent colored versions.

I just got my dungeon dressing add ons yesterday and I noticed there is no treasure chest. I overlooked that when ordering. Wouldn't have changed my order at all, just surprised me. Are we gonna see a couple treasure chests in caverns?

fwiw, if you do a search on "hirst arts terrain etsy" or "hirst arts terrain ebay", you should find sellers of treasure sets that include chests. Mythical Lairs has them, as does Itar's Workshop. Reaper Bones has a treasure chest, as do other miniature makers. No need to wait a year for something the FLGS should have!

FRPGames: www.frpgames.com/cart.php?m=search&s=treasure+chset

EDIT: Well, the KS Dungeon Add-On pack should have two treasure chests, so write DF an email asking for replacement parts?
