TOPIC: Caverns Kickstarter - Wish List

Re:Caverns Kickstarter - Wish List 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Thread drift, but--

Thanks Kitenerd for the cell layout suggestion!

And I agree with jchunick that it would be great to have the option to purchase more secret doors and cell doors separate from the whole "dressings" packs. (I'd definitely buy several of each, like a shot.) I realize that having a gazillion options on KS can be awkward, but maybe afterward, on the DF website (there are after all a number of resin pieces available as single items.)

This may have been mentioned before, but I'd like to see some crates and sacks. I know we can get barrels in the dungeon dressings add-on but I'd like to be able to mix up my supply rooms etc. with more variety. I've got a couple things by other companies but honestly I'm bout to go DF exclusive with my collection cuz I like yur stuff so much and dwarvinite is the only material I care to purchase

If you can do it, WATER. I want a cavern lake somehow, and I'd rather it not be a piece of cardboard or felt under my tiles. :)

Pāhoehoe Re:Caverns Kickstarter - Wish List 11 Months ago
As part of a DoE to caverns conversion.
The DF lines have a good amount of A'a lavas represented, Pāhoehoe can look really cool too. Check the Wikipedia page for Lava to see what I mean.

So basically Paheohoe lavas, particularly toes and ropes.

A Sea Cave entrance (requiring water of course) would be friggin AWESOME, but I don't expect it of course. Ability to combine it with the ledges and features of cavernous chasm would be even better...as the group traverses the narrow ledges and wend their way into the cave mouth. This would also facilitate using seawater/tides as a hazard in play areas, including causing the collapse of features within the cave, especially by sorcery from the villain that lairs there. The recent King Kong movie (2005?) showcases what I am referring to at certain parts.

Also, a rock-fall/slide piece that can be individually placed would be very welcome. The closest we have to that right now is the collapsed passage terminus. I'd prefer the fall formation to be 10x10 or smaller, reaching to the ceiling, and showing alluvial fan type geometry around the toes (edges of the base).

Next I would also like 2 piece stalagmites that can be inverted and fit together like puzzle pieces, so that large inverted formations can be shown. In ideal circumstances, this could be used to create multi-level cavern topography. These pieces should work well alone, of course.

Subterranean geothermal features would be great as well, though that would, again, require water. These could be made to work outdoors as well.

Useful for the types of scenes I am imagining:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavern

Anyway, that is enough for now.

Although I really like conversion pieces, I'm not sure about new conversions from limited edition resin sets to GameTile sets. Unlimited production on one or two pieces to join up with a run of "only" 1500 seems a bit off.

Do you have any suggestions how a rockfall accessory can be accomplished in an environment that will feature uneven walls? As a freestanding accessory, it would need to be sculpted to fit against a specific wall tile, or it would have a flat side that would not fit flush against any cavern wall. An actual straight wall and/or corner piece sculpted as a rockfall might be more practical, assuming that when you say 10x10 you mean scale feet, not actual inches or floor squares.

Can you be more specific about "subterranean geothermal features?" Geysers can be represented by a crack or a (mounded?) hole in a floor tile (or in a wall). Hot springs are just pools, which I hope will be accomplished with shoreline/edge pieces -- mineral deposits around the edge can be simulated with a custom paint job, and multicolor water can be simulated with printed paper beneath the tiles.

A rockfall accessory could just be a grab bag of 100 or so dwarvenite rocks in various shapes and sizes.

Actually, a bunch of dwarvenite rocks is a pretty cool idea, if I do say so myself...

Re:Caverns Kickstarter - Wish List 11 Months ago
The point about conversions is a good one...I was thinking D.F. could cap the number they produce based on the total number of limited edition sets produced, that would be converted to. I suppose they could raise the cap if customers continue to request it, but my sense of it is that there is a minimum size production run they do.

My personal recommendation would be to make the conversion pieces a KS exclusive, so it is basically a one-time availability. Of course, that can cause frustrations for would-be buyers, but it seems like it would be safest for the company.

For the rockfall, I was thinking something fan-shaped with an origin 5 (or less) scale feet, broadening to 10 scale feet at the terminus. It would need a sort of "generic fit" slot to be usable with multiple tiles. Personally, if I could use such a piece adjacent to a regular straight wall, and with at least one piece from the base Cavern KS set, that would be good enough for me. Obviously, if compatibility could be improved to fit multiple Cavern pieces that would be ideal, but I couldn't suggest how to go about it.

Regarding the subterranean geothermal elements, what I am really hoping for is a feature, or features, with built-in iridescence. And while its true that a simple pool works for a geotherm, and related features are possible with the Cavern tubs, some of the more complex formations are not well served by such an arrangement. Terraces and gypsum flowers/desert rose sorts of features seem better served by standalone elements. Additionally, the calcium- and sulfur-rich formations tend to be a bright white or yellow. Mud-pots are another thing I would like to see.

Again, conversions might serve that purpose better, I suppose.

I'll be the first to admit that it is easy to sit back and throw out a bunch of suggestions; far harder to turn it into reality. That ultimately rests with Stefan, Jeff and the sculptors.

I think a rockfall might be best served as a small subset of modular 2"x2" pieces, with the rockfall piled up at a 45 degree angle.

The pieces could include:
- Straight Wall w Rockfall
- Straight Wall w Rockfall Quarter Cone (left)
- Straight Wall w Rockfall Quarter Cone (right)
- Inside Corner w Rockfall
- Outside Corner w Rockfall Three Quarter Cone

This eliminates the problem of matching the back to an existing tile. It also gives us additional pieces, rather than covering other pieces up. But they would also use at least twice the dwarvenite as other GameTiles. They are also pieces that you can't put a mini on.

Some of the more complex geological formations may be doable as part of the sculpt, if Stefan decides to include them. A terrace would make a nice alternate straight wall piece, but again cuts into the usable floor space.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but if kick starter funding gets high enough I'd love to see crenelated walls and corners for the original game tiles. They'd be a nice match with the castle wall pack.

Stalagmites stand mighty on the ground.

Stalactites hang tightly to the ceiling.

Even Better:

stalaGmite - G is for ground

stalaCtites - C is for ceiling

Great idea - and i don't think it has been mentioned before - and i have been paying pretty close attention ;)

I second the motion these would be a cool add on at some point.
