I think Reaper waited a year because they could not fulfill their KS in a timely manner.

In my opinion many people spend their money on every KS that comes along so they do not have money for something worth taking part in, hopeful with the knowledge that a second KS is coming people will save up for it.

I did not know about the first DF KS in advance so I could only go for 5 unpainted sets. But IMHO a caverns KS is way more worth taking part in.

Well there is also the flip side of the coin on this. There are some people that see that this was a great run KS that they have told their friends that DF does KS right. Depending on their timing on their next Kickstarter, they could get more orders. I know some people are already anticipating spending some money, and good chances more, for the next DF offering on KS.

It was serendipitous last year timing when most people are getting their overpay back on their taxes from the government (US). If they go sooner in 2014, they could get in on people who have holiday money burning in their pockets. Heck, it might induce people to get their taxes filed earlier to get their refunds so they can back the latest DF Kickstarter.

If it ends before March, they could have not only sets for sale going well before the holiday season, but could sell a bunch of sets at GenCon (or have people pick up their orders) and still get the KS backers their orders by/before then.

in my opinion it will probably be as successful maybe even slightly more so.

couple of factors that makes me believe this...
1) DF's first ever KS was near flawless. and the few mistakes they have made are being corrected shortly. word gets around
2) product thought and quality were off the charts, so caverns should be equally as compelling.
3) for all those that decided 1 KS of DF game tiles was enough, there will be another who thinks that this was such a good deal they have to get in on another, plus those that missed the first one will want to jump in.
4) possibly more awareness of this KS coming

I want to believe. :)
honestly I am just channeling positive thoughts

But that still leads me to suggest a single freestanding door piece (the same thickness as a freestanding wall piece) that is identical on both sides so that we can do grand double doors with two freestanding door pieces and a two-tile gap in a wall. Not very caverny, but still useful.

Your idea is worth testing and it would be VERY simple to produce (could even use the existing floor tile mold with a drill and glue step), freestanding wall already exists so all that needs to be sculpted is a massive door thick enough to hold the hinge pin. Double doors should be huge anyway.

Hmmm, i have a drill press in the garage. Now if only i had a few minutes to spare!

I am not saying that it would not be successful, even at 75% that is still nearly 1.5m. I just think that ideas that is going to break 5-6m are not realistic IMHO.

Ah, then, yeah 5 to 6 million might be overkill. Reaper started strong with their first day on their second KS, but fell short (of surpassing their first KS) at the end, and I think that might be because of the timing of the KS, some of their weird updating, and some of the slip-ups of their first KS.

I found out about the DF Kickstarter from a friend when there were only a handful of days left. I'm sure if I had the type of time I had with Reaper's second KS, I might've had more money to pledge to DF. I'm sure those that have their dungeon tiles and are quite happy with just them are not going to return to pledge, or might make small token pledges.

But there are people, like me, that are looking at possibly getting 10 sets of Dwarvenite caverns as a start and then maybe getting a fair number of add-ons. That basically doubles what I pledged at DF's first KS, and also affords me thinking about getting painted sets as well.

I also have had other people interested in my current pieces. They are gamers, ex-gamers, etc... Caverns might bring them back in the fold, and there has been nothing but positive about how the entirety of the process has been and the quality of the end product.

We have a general time frame of when they are going to do their second one. Something tells me that, much like Reaper, they are going to have their goal on Day 1, and the rest is going to be gravy. Also, that gives those of us that have really been following DF closely now to let our friends who might not be on the boards like we are what's coming, and also a little time to start socking away money, rather than trying to come up with it last minute.

My guess is probably going to see 2 to 2.5 million.

Unless something dreadful happens to my fiances I plan to pledge for more than I did the first pass. I also hope to make at least one purchase off the website before the second KS starts.

Other than DF I intend to hit up the MBA castle KS. Anything else has to knock my socks off to get any money out of me, I will need what I can spare for the first two. Heck, I may be picking up either extra shifts or a second job (only partially in preparation for them).

I don't see any reason that it would be likely to do less. Most of those who pledged will probably return. I do think folks calling for six mil will probably be disappointed. I can easily see it matching or exceeding the last though. Honestly, there are too many factors for more than an educated guess at this stage.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

We already have 3 sets of MM Caverns, 1 Cavernous Passage and enough extras for almost 2 more so we won't get too much more. Our group will probably get some. Lake is what I am looking for.

I'm not sure if anybody has requested this yet, but I would love the pieces to build a several level cavern waterfall with a path up and behind with a cave entrance. That might be to much to ask, but it is one the builds I would love to be able to make with DF.

A number of people have asked for waterfalls over the years. This was my rendition.

Jgardner, what you describe sounds like something that could be an awesome limited run resin piece, some sort of special caverns entrance maybe?

EDIT: BTW, Stefan and Jeff, if you read this one I was curious if you might be able to add in a feature to the after Kickstarter pledge manager... Reaper has it setup where you can add to your pledge for a brief window afterward that also allows you to use Paypal. Personally, I love this option. Not sure how much it might add for you guys final numbers wise, but it would make it easier for me to give you more money!

Right now, I think that 4x6 is the actual size limit for flat pieces in Dwarvenite, and 2x2x2 is the actual limit for wall and corner pieces. Not conducive to a large, complicated set piece.

I'm much more interested in a freestanding waterfall accessory, or possibly a Straight Wall w/ Waterfall -- depending on whether it's done for GT or MM -- than a large static display piece with very limited space to stand miniatures on.

The largest piece I'd want to see in resin (since MM already has water effects integrated into floor pieces) is a 4x4x4 Straight Wall w/ Waterfall, designed to match as well as possible with a Cavernous River piece at the top as well as the bottom.

Freestanding accessories could be placed near walls of any DF set, or out in the middle of a room. Some could be 2" tall to match standard wall height, and some could be 4"-6" tall to imply "unseen heights". Some could be narrow to match MM rivers, and some could be 4" wide to match MM Open Water pieces. Some might even be angled or curved to match various corners and Curved Walls.

Multiple waterfall accessories and modular DF pieces could be used to create tall, wide cascades with complex features.
