Casting all the caverns in clear would not make sense for a majority of backers.

1. unpainted, they look like pure garbage
2. for newbies, painting clear tiles is more advanced. They would have to first prime them, and then because of that do more steps to get a decent paint job. (unlike a rock-like base color that would require a simple drybrush or a few steps to get close to the DF paintscheme)
3. Ice accumulates on the rock and not the other way around. Painting the rock on or around the clear ice would look really strange. Thus even the pro-painted sets would look off.

Lastly, there is the possibility that it would be more brittle. I could be wrong about that, but it seems like that from my experience with clear-plastic minis that they break easier than all the other non-clear plastic minis.

Making clear pvc add-on pieces or as stretch-goal pieces would make more sense. Ice stalagmites or Ice Dragons like DF offered in the past for instance.

Unpainted dwarvenite is much cheaper and affordable to those who normally would never buy this stuff. Making all of it clear, would be an instant deal killer for those folks.

Sorry to confuse! I meant for the clear to be an add-on, not the core caverns. As to the ice caverns, I was picturing more like glacial caves than ice covered stone. If all you want is ice covered stone there is definitely little to no need for a clear cast.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

This isn't true, based on Thod's post where they cast some caves in clear. Although, the look is in the eye of the beholder. Might just tone down that statement a bit. "In your opinion, they do not look as good"

Thanks for the link. Not quite as horrible as I was imagining. Maybe if there was a bit more opaqueness it might look more realistic.

I'd like to see large, unique rooms, for add on purchase. This might be similar to the addon purchases for Bones.

Another dungeon accesories pack with a caverns theme (rolls, camp fires, torches, maybe armor racks) would be fabulous.

Another couple different additions for an entrance would be appreciated.

Yes a cave entrance would be great.

Perhaps one that was as big as Dwarvenite would allow

(even if like big bones minis it had to be made in parts)

I am a huge fan of the sci fi pieces, and would love to get some to add to the 8 or set sets I have. I love those pieces, as does my wife (Sci Fi is her favorite genre. I personally resent how some of you are making blanket statements about how sci fi pieces are a waste. Just because you aren't interested, doesn't mean the rest of us aren't. I for one would love some scifi dwarvenite sets, even if only as an add on pack.

Concerning color, my first thoughts are to cast them in a color that will be best for matching the resin caverns as they will be compatible and should be able to blend in perfectly with the larger resin caverns....but we could maybe (maybe) offer a different choice of color for those who just don't plan to paint them?

While the dark color of the Dwarvenite in the dungeon Game Tiles seams to be quite well received.

I am thinking that it is just to dark for Caverns, I feel that a Limestone color is the way to go.

But I wondered what others think?

First welcome to the forum broodhunter2

While I am not a fan of sci-fi pieces, I do hope that the second KS does so well that DF is able to produce all the main and secondary pieces and we all get to see some great add-on packs we wish for.

If we get the KS up high enough I see no reason sci-fi should not get included.

I hope Sci-Fi gets its own crowd funding, perhaps as an "off-season" event.

It would be a truer measure of the demand for SF-DF, and it would minimize the risk for DF by allowing them to set reasonable funding goals. (Even add-ons have to meet minimum order levels for the factory.)

But I think they should use a different crowd funding service that allows them to use existing molds for previously developed sets.

As others have said, welcome to the forums brood!

I'm certainly not against Sci-fi sets, I just have very few occasions to use them. I also think that the best mileage would come from a separate outing. There are people who want caverns and people who want Sci-fi. While I am sure there is overlap, I think that combining the two would probably not be in the best interest of the Sci-fi fans or DF.

I think a new Sci-fi set in dwarvenite would be pretty cool, and I could be interested. It just isn't as high a priority to me. Most of the players I game with do fantasy, only a couple do Sci-fi. Its just a matter of the bang for my buck.

As for re-releasing in resin, the preorder system with minimum order size in place (i.e. once however many sets for a minimum order are in it gets placed), is probably the simplest method. The only catch would be generating enough buzz. One thing I encourage is to get as many interested parties on the forums here as possible. The more dialogue there is the easier it will be for DF to come up with a solution and gauge demand.
