Unfortunately I cannot order them here international. I think I will have to look at paints available here again.

Game Decor's PaintWorks has a paint terrain KS with international postage. Looks like a flat fee of $22 regardless of how much paint you order. 38 paints at the various $100+ levels. Ends soon. Yes, that' a lot of paint...

@shadaraman: Are you concerned about wasting paint? I know it's a lost cause for drybrushing, since most of the paint ends up on the paper towel! You could use a wet palette, and I've heard chilling your dry palette also works. Maybe even a salsa cup and lid. I actually wipe off the paint on a wet palette to "save" paint.

I'm concerned about wasting more paint than I'm already going to, given how wasteful drybrushing is. I have a wet palette, but it's not great for more fluid paints. They tend to get diluted more than I want pretty fast. Chilling the dry palette is an interesting idea, I might try that. I'll also probably add a few drops of concentrated drying retarder into the paint, just to be sure. It's not a big worry for me, but I was curious if Stefan had considered it much when he was designing the paints.

Hello experienced painters...

I don't paint. I fear paint. I am not even good at painting walls, let alone trim. Painting something as small as a mini scares me. I may not have backed the kickstarter if they hadn't offered prepainted...

Still, Stefan makes it look soooooo easy. So i took the plunge and got me a set of Pokorny paints despite the fact that i bought everything prepainted. Time to face my fears.

One thing my new Game Tiles will certainly need is an altar. So i just ordered this one:

otherworldminiatures.co.uk/shop/dungeon-furniture/df1-altar-braziers/

I figure if i can't paint a big square block, then i have no business ever ordering anything unpainted again ;)

Here is my question. This thing is cast in green. Will the Pokorny Base Gray be a good starting point or should i pick up a really dark gray to go under everything so it starts a similar color to dwarvenite?

Thanks for the help

Arnold

Kitenerd,

Congratulatons for facing your fear! Most folks never do so...

Many folks also approach life as one long session of pain avoidance...danger, doing so will lead to a boring life of: wish i had, or should I have, or why didn't I....a life of regrets............good news however is it's never too late to pursue your dreams or to challenge yourself to do something outside your comfort zone and.... to FAIL HORRIBLY! No kidding, we usually do fail when we try to do great things, and it hurts! we fail a lot, we struggle, but the one's who are passionate enough about it to keep trying, and who are wise enough to learn from the mistakes, to adjust and stay optimistic, those brave, unrelenting folks eventually do the GREAT THINGS that get done in this world...

So Congratulations on being GREAT!

PS
The Altar will probably arrive in a gray color...that green was the sculptors master sculpt....drybrushing is awesome because it basically lets the sculpture do the painting for you...you just have to make sure your brush is REALLY almost dried out....

@Shadaraman: fwiw, I drybrush mini's with Reaper's paints (afaik, they're fluid since they have flow aid added to them) with a wet palette. (: What I'll do is lightly dip a fan brush and remove paint on the wet palette. Sometimes, I'll then flick it back and forth and move the miniature (glued on top of a paint pot) slowly towards the brush. That way, I have better control over which parts of the miniature touch the bristles of the brush. Give it a go and it might work for you!

@Stefan: Great post! Love your POV on things. I actually loathe painting miniatures, but do it because Reaper kept waving mini's at us in the last KS. (: What I like about painting miniatures is that, after I'm done, I have something tangible that is of quality to look at. (It also helps that I have a short memory so I don't remember how much I dislike my painting sessions!) I've spent tons of time on the internet and playing computer games, and, frankly, don't have anything tangible to show for it. (Well, flamewars on the internet *are* good to improve critical thinking and grammar skills!)

IMO, It's too bad that most miniature painters start with fantasy figures, rather than terrain. Fantasy figures (and most sf personalities) are MUCH more difficult to paint than terrain, often more expensive as well. I mean, if I screw up painting a rock (I'm not even sure how you do that...), big deal, go get another piece of styrofoam. But if you get a mini's eye's crossed... ugh!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the help. Greens... who knew? I do now ;) Seemed like an awfully odd base color.

@Stefan - Thanks for the kind words... I love to look at beautiful minis and terrain and someday hopefully i will be competent at making my own. I know failure well. I am a kitemaker (much more so before children) and have taught at several kitemaking workshops around the country. I always bring the first kite i ever made. It is comically inept and doesn't fly, but i made a second...

@ced1106 - One day i will pick up these kits and work my way through the tutorials. I am not good with patience, or fine motor skills so it should be interesting, but i will try someday. Right now it is all i can do to stay ahead of my kids... maybe when the twins hit kindergarten ;)

I will post my results (for better or worse) once i paint the altar.

First i need to get my paints. Have they shipped yet ???

Just kidding!

I just wanted to say the paints are awesome. I got a chance to meet Stefan and see the paints on Saturday. Painted up a sample wall and floor, following his directions and am very happy with how the pieces came out. The paint is just the perfect consistency -- goes on thin with great coverage, without any hint of running into places you don't want it to. I'll try to get a photo of of my pieces next to the the prototype set that he painted that I already had -- sometime later tonight.

Those are the old painting tutorials. Theoretically, there will be new ones sometime soon. Based on the comments up-thread, it sounds like they were working on them this last weekend.

Yeah I was out for the video shoot last weekend, no idea how long they'll take to assemble the actual video from the footage they got. Hope I don't look too bad (I felt my energy fading a lot by the end of the shoot... I had just been on a red-eye from California to Boston (returning from a work trip) and then drove to NYC so I was exhausted.

Is there a chance that once shipping is done for the KS and the paints, that the paints will be added to the store again for those of us who missed the window to purchase them with the KS?
