GAH! I'm new to DF. What's a pony and goat hair have to do with anything?

We are now SOLD OUT of the Kickstarter 4-pack paint offer. We should have additional 4-packs available on the website by the end of the year. We may also have additional colors available at that time. Thank you all for your support of our paint program. I think it means a lot to Stefan to have his custom-designed paints available to his collectors.

I'm looking forward to seeing more colors added to the line. The world really needs a line of well made paints designed for painting terrain.

I also have a question about the paints: what kind of drying time do they have? I'm not really worried about time to dry on the tiles, since a thin drybrushing usually dries very quickly, but I expect to have a fair amount of paint sitting in a palette while I paint. Usually I would include some slow drying medium as part of my thinning mix, but since these don't require thinning I might not be doing that. Will the paints stay wet for a fairly long period of time, or should I add a few drops of slow dry to keep them going?

Thanks! Pretty disappointed in myself for not realizing the obvious... I was thinking something more sinister...

btw, official DF brushes will be available on our web site after October! They are just perfect for painting and drybrushing and are the exact one's I personally have used to paint my miniatures and dungeon tiles all these years....I highly recommend trying them out when they are available!

Hello experienced painters...

I don't paint. I fear paint. I am not even good at painting walls, let alone trim. Painting something as small as a mini scares me. I may not have backed the kickstarter if they hadn't offered prepainted...

Still, Stefan makes it look soooooo easy. So i took the plunge and got me a set of Pokorny paints despite the fact that i bought everything prepainted. Time to face my fears.

One thing my new Game Tiles will certainly need is an altar. So i just ordered this one:

otherworldminiatures.co.uk/shop/dungeon-furniture/df1-altar-braziers/

I figure if i can't paint a big square block, then i have no business ever ordering anything unpainted again ;)

Here is my question. This thing is cast in green. Will the Pokorny Base Gray be a good starting point or should i pick up a really dark gray to go under everything so it starts a similar color to dwarvenite?

Thanks for the help

Arnold

It actually looks like those are just the pictures of the greens (masters the molds are made from) I would guess it will actually come in a white or grayish color depending on the material blend they use.

That being said, I dont think there will be an issue with coverage from the base coat of the paint.

Just use an acrylic primer (I suggest black) and then apply the DF paints over it. Maybe use the olive color as a light drybrush on the bottom of the corners creeping up and to the sides.

Good Luck

@kitenerd: Pick up the Reaper Learn to Paint Kit 1: Basic Fur and Armor. You will learn drybrushing and washing techniques, which will be useful for the DF tiles. fwiw, Reaper released its altar and other dungeon dressing with its Bones line.

@shadaraman: Are you concerned about wasting paint? I know it's a lost cause for drybrushing, since most of the paint ends up on the paper towel! You could use a wet palette, and I've heard chilling your dry palette also works. Maybe even a salsa cup and lid. I actually wipe off the paint on a wet palette to "save" paint.
