TOPIC: Moving from Kickstarter to Website Purchases

Moving from Kickstarter to Website Purchases 1 Year, 5 Months ago
I'm a new customer that supported the Game Tiles Kickstarter. With the incredible base of Game Tiles from the Kickstarter in the works I have been exploring the other products available on the website. Without any experience with Dwarven Forge products I am not sure what would be the best choice in terms of an initial purchase.

Is it correct that the plan for future Game Tiles is to stick with 'Core Sets' like dungeons, caverns, and passages? I think I lean slightly towards the durability of Game Tiles (it seems to me I would be much more comfortable with loaning those out, or letting kids use them) for those sets if they are going to exist. That said, is it safe to say that Limited Edition sets are not going to be made in Game Tiles? Will there always be some resin sets? I'm leaning pretty heavy towards picking up a couple of those sets as they would compliment the Game Tiles when they arrive.

I am to sure if all these questions are easily answered, but I thought I would ask. I was also curious when restocking is set to happen. There are some out of stock sets that look amazing.

Thanks. Any advice for a new customer, specific to questions above or not, is appreciated.

the resin sets have a higher detail, and more variety. i doubt that the game tiles could do the catacombs set with the needed detail, or the ice cavern set (which has clear parts for ice in places). we dont know yet if there will be a game tile for lake and river tiles.

i would recommend grabbing a room and passage set to build with, and have a look at the accessories and individual pieces. the trap sets are not being made anymore, but some of the trap pieces are still available. and if you want an limited edition item, its better to get it sooner than later (but after the game tiles survey email, as you may want more add-ons).

i have the two hellscape sets myself, and they are very impressive sets. the only downside of the hellscape is that its challenging to use all of the pieces at the same time, with just those 2 boxes (and a gate and the stairs wall). there are a lot of pictures on the forum if you want a better look at that set.

sadly a lot of stuff is out of stock just now, but we can expect a restock sometime this summer i think.

Sir William, Welcome to the DF forum!

Limited Editions Sets won`t be made anymore once 1500 Sets have been produced in resin and sold! That`s what "limited" means. The Limited Sets presently out of stock are not sold out forever yet though. They just need to be produced one last time!

For now, Stefan has hinted that he will do Game Tiles Passages. Also, there`s been so much request for a cavern set that I think he is considering it! He would probably have to redesign this set as the actual 4*4 pieces are too big and intricate to be cast in PVC/Dwarvenite.

What you should buy really depends upon what you want, what you need, what you like, how much you plan acquiring DF stuff during your addiction and how much you want to collect DF things.

Personally, I would not let a kid under 10 play with my beautiful resin pieces.

Regarding restocks, there`s about 2 per year and the next one will be this summer. You can register to be notified by email when the product you want is back in stock on this respective product`s web page.

There will always be resin lines of DF products. There are Sets that are less appealing to the masses and less susceptible to raise 1.9 millions dollars ;-). Such Sets are composed of many different and beautiful pieces and the relatively low number of casts of those pieces could not cover the tremendous initial investment of making the necessary metal molds necessary if these Sets were to bet cast in PVC/Dwarvenite.

Hi and welcome here

In regard to what to add next?

First - it makes a difference if you are in the US or Europe. Europe had the short straw in regard to shipping for the KS - but the European shop currently still has a lot more on stock.

So lets start - what are good additions?

Accessory Sets - they always add extra. For example the Ancient Treasure Set.

Classic line - well - you have it in dwarvenite and the next KS likely will add passages. So you are pretty much served here with the basics - especially as the add-on packs allow a lot of versatility.
Something you won't get - the Trap Set - has the added effect to have quite a few passages. Unfortunately only very old stock left in Europe.

Medieval Building set - a great addition. Needs Restock for the basic set in the US.

Limited Edition Sets:
Hellscape - take a Hellscape 1 now if you can - no clue how long they will be available. And Hellscape II adds a lot of extra.
Woodland Set - available and something distinctly different - surely nothing of it's kind will be made in dwarvenite.
Den of Evil - you would want likely to wait for the Room Set to be back. The next time might be the last restock - catch it when it's back.
Realm of the Ancients - also not that much more to be expected - at least not for RotA 1 once it is back (and now that there might be a lot more customers wanting it).

Cavern Sets:
I don't know if they ever will be made from dwarvenite. And they likely will be done after dwarvenite passages.

So - yes - unfortunately you will have to wait for a restock. And I'm not sure that this will happen before the dwarvenite sets are delivered. It will be at some stage this year - and the KS should allow a MASSIV restock for the US side (less so on my side - I will need all my cash to buy into the dwarvenite) - but not sure that this will be summer anymore.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've filled and then emptied my Dwarven Forge shopping cart several times, trying to be 100% sure about such a large purchase, and your information helped me make my final decision.

In the end, I went with:
Hellscape
Hellscape 2
Hellscape to Cavern Conversion
and an extra "V" Wall

i want to add that even if we do a cavern in dwarvenite it will be a new type of Cavern (different shapes) but will be compatible with the resin cavern too...so it's fine to get both as they will compliment each other well...a cavern in dwarvenite might not be as detailed as a resin cavern but it will be more affordable...rivers and lakes in dwarvenite might not be doable with clear "water" effects...

Looking at the higher resolution Caverns pictures wondered if they might be more detailed, or at least quite different than a Dwarvenite version. When they are restocked I think they will be near the top of my list as they work in so many scenarios. The lakes are just amazing looking as well.

If there is any way you can add the Hellscapte Gate to your awesome purchase, you will be glad you did. It is also limited, and it looks amazing when you see it up close.
