The price is way to high! 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Hi All
I really do like this stuff, but the prices is eye watering! , just for one floor tile works out in UK pounds at £7.70! and this is without P+P on top.
It would cost hundreds of pounds just to get a small dungeon set-up, I feel this stuff is very over priced for what it is.
So sorry I will be sticking with card floor plans.

Check out the European site in a few months. I'm pretty sure you'll find Dwarvenite pieces to be a better bargain then.

As far as I understand, the recent kickstarter was used to make the pieces more affordable over all. I have faith that this is true and will say wait a few and see prices drop.

The game tiles pieces came in at around $1.90-$3 depending on how many sets you backed. So that would be about 1 pound including postage. However you have just missed the end of the kick starter. The original DF pieces were expensive for international people as the shipping is quite high due to weight. DF did a kick starter to create a new cheaper range so that we could afford their product. When they release it on their store it should be cheaper than the existing stuff.

There are many posts covering this & Stefan explains with great enthusiasm in a video just why moving to both a cheaper material (Dwarvenite) as well as moving into 'mass' production is so important for the future of DF.

In Short:
The original Resin line is produced in a time consuming and labour intensive process of people pouring resin into moulds etc. That range, whilst has amazing detail and quality is 'Top of the Range' and this is reflected in the price.

Moving to a whole new process and material enables fast, mechanised manufacture. This greatly reduces the price per tile and that in turn opens new markets.
As you can see the detail is still great. (Although certain highly detailed ranges may only ever be available in the older more expensive resin range.)

If you want pre-painted - that is still an option, but at a cost. The painting is still done by hand.
The new angle with Dwarvenite is also to allow home-brew painting. For those that want a keen price or to see bespoke colours. It is now in everyones gift to do this. Again. Unpainted will be far cheaper again.
Stefan has produced some painting guides showing that with only a handful of paint colours and one brush just how easy it is to get an effective look. There will be more videos to cover this in even greater detail.

Re - P&P. Since DF secured a European distributer we also benefit from excellent shipping from the UK.
This avoids any additional Duty charges across the whole of the European Union of countries.
I have found that Thod (Our UK distributer as he is known on these forums) combines P&P and gets the best possible prices. The service remains excellent.

It is all getting better and cheaper and with options like 'unpainted' you now have a whole new entry level that opens up.
After a 17 year process, just another 6 or 7 months and you will see a whole new DF pence per tile price that will be far more attractive on price than is currently possible.

Take a look at the Itar's Workshop KickStarter!

I'm buying accessories there, even though I'm getting the tiles from the DF KickStarter.

Plus the product appears ni on indestructable. To be honest now that the ks is done. A quick dry brush of a few greys will still result in a cool appearance, my opinion anyway.

I just did. IMHO - it looks like something anyone can do at home with HIRST moulds.
Good luck to them. DF is in a different league. With DF you get a lot of extra design, style and quality.
What I see in that KS is akin to one of the first sets DF produced some dozen years ago. The 'Room and Corridor' set:
www.dwarvenforge.com/classic-dungeon-sets?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.v1.tpl&product_id=16305&category_id=4

Look at this as an example of what else is to come - I take comfort that I KNOW that DF are already planning the corridor 'Game Tile' add-on equivalents. (We have posts that already include some development photos of the work Stefan is already getting on with)

I hope for backers sakes that Itar's is successful and that they move onto extra shapes and designs etc so that you get some choice beyond the basic square corridors and rooms.
Not sure I like that ALL of their doors are all 'Drop downs'... Portcullis style. ?

There are already a few companies using HA molds to pre-cast modular indoor terrain. Pre-painting it is new, but that doesn't seem to be available for their accessories.

The price seems perfectly reasonable to me considering the quality of the product. The shipping is the killer for me but there is no way around it. I'm happy to pay the prices that DF charges because I know what I'm getting is the absolute best. It's like anything in life, you get what you pay for and quality doesn't come cheap.

Yes, you can "do it at home" if you don't mind paying *two hundred* dollars for six molds worth of stuff, $150 for a vibrating table, and however much it costs for resin and dental plaster because the cheaper stuff BREAKS. Oh, and I hope you don't mind watching paint dry, because that's what it's like waiting for the resin in a mold to cure -- assuming that it does so correctly. I'm fine with paying $50 to someone else to make my accessories, and more than twice that for dungeon tiles. Certainly *cheaper* than doing it myself.
