Hi
I asked a while back about the new DF floor tiles that where coming out, I have looked but can not see them on here.
Also I have read a few post saying they will not be cheaper than the range that is out now.
I am sorry but £140.00 for a starter set is still way to high a price to pay.
To get a Dungeon put together would cost thousand's, I am a hard core role-player for years, but even I bulk at the cost for this stuff, the price has to come down a lot more!.
And have a look at the room set, there are just enough bits to make one very small room, or a very short corridor all for $109.00, you telling me this is value for money?.

Kickstarter sets and preorders taken at GenCon are scheduled to ship in October.

Then, or shortly after, GameTiles should be available on the website for purchase, at the currently unknown retail price.

This applies to the US distributor.

Darren,
I can understand your frustration that "Stuff" is to expensive. I have been playing RPG's for 36 years. We use to use just about anything to map out adventures.... graph paper, card board rooms, blocks of wood, etc..
I use to build towns out of plasticard and balsa and people would drop their jaws in amazement how cool it was....Then... complain that I was to expensive if they wanted to buy a custom building that took me 15-20 hours to create for $50.
I think your wrong thinking that $109-135 is to much for a complete and ready to play (Well Boxed) set of game terrain is.... to be honest, I having made lots of products to sell think it's a great price.
You are dead on correct when you say a good set-up would cost a couple thousand dollars....but what hobby doesn't have an investment. You could do what we use too do and have each person in our group buy some of the required materials so nobody has the "Big" Investment in the total.
Please understand I'm not trying to be a jerk but some things cost and often take a lot of time to acquire.
I look forward to the new injection molded tiles coming out and hope they can be sold at a lower price because it would draw more people into the hobby, we have to be a little realistic in that this is a business and if Dwarven Forge cant make a fair profit they wont make anything for us to buy.

I can tell yah... the best games we ever played were on a gridded vinyl battle mat. You can get those in the meanwhile for 20-30 bucks.

Hello Torrington,

You must be referring to our beautifully hand crafted Resin line of MASTER MAZE dungeons...I think they are a GREAT value when you take into account all the work that has gone into making such a hand cast and hand painted product...perhaps you have not seen or felt some of these pieces in real life? they are truly the top of the range...if you want something of great quality, you should expect the price to reflect the quality of the materials and workmanship... and I should add beauty of sculptural execution and design as well...each Master Maze piece is also fitted with felt on the bottom, most times cut by hand, and is also packed in styrofoam packaging for better shipping and storage...cared for, they will last you many generations, they are modular, so they can be used over and over again for different scenarios for the rest of your lifetime...if you consider that, you might see them as a fantastic value....If one day, you decide to stop using them, you will be able to sell them for more than you bought them for...

Our EVEN MORE affordable line of Game Tiles should be available in the UK by the end of October, please check our EU website at that time or sign up for our newsletter to be notified...

Thanks for your interest:)

...ninja'ed by Stefan himself!

Anyway, what I was going to say -- independently of the creator of these products -- is that they are works of art (industrial art, perhaps, but art nonetheless).

If you want plain functionality at minimum cost, then perhaps DF sets -- or at least Master Maze resin sets -- are probably not for you. You can certainly find other playing-surface alternatives at lower price points (from draw-it-yourself on gridded mats, to 2D graphics printed on gridded paper or laminates, to 2D dungeon tiles, to 3D paper terrain).

But nothing delivers the aesthetics of DF. Except maybe custom DF-compatible terrain made by independent artists, and that costs even more per piece, because there is no mass-production.

the Dwarven Forge Master Maze resin line is a premium product. It is available (most years, 2013 appears to be an exception thus far with no restocks) at a price that reflects the cost of materials, and limited economies of scale that result from small unit production.

Dwarven Forge Game Tiles will resolve some of those pricing concerns as the larger production will result in greater economies of scale.

so far it looks like Game Tiles will cost about 50% of Master Maze.

That may still be beyond your ability to pay. If so I would suggest slowly acquiring kits over time and /or trading for them.

There are alternatives to Dwarven Forge product on the market place but none of them have the quality or variety that DF products provide.

Truly, you get what you pay for.

I like these a lot but the reason for them was said to be to make them more affordable. a classic dungeon room set is $109 and 1 set of game tiles on the KS was $95. that price is pretty similar, and to level it out even more, the room set has a couple more pieces. that's not really a price drop. the unpainted sets are cheaper but that's not a price drop either, its a smaller price tag on an unfinished product, I would expect that anyway. don't get me wrong, these are wonderful sets and I cant wait to buy them at the price yur asking. I also think its wonderful that yur offering the option for people to paint them themselves and save some money. I just wish I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up for a smaller price tag when it really doesn't appear to have changed

IIRC, there were add-on packs available in the kickstarter, which were actually two sets for $95.

If you bought 5 sets in the kickstarter (and are based in the US), then each set worked out to be $76 shipped, and they include a ton of stretch reward pieces, making each set much larger than the resin ones. As an overseas customer about a third of what I spent was on shipping, but the overall price was still much lower than what I would have paid for resin sets.

Also, Like in the Kickstarter, If you buy multiple Game Tile Sets from our site when they are available, the price per set will be less....
