for add-on I ordered 6: 4 unpainted: curved walls, diagonal walls, 2 floor pack. and 2 Painted: COS and DDP

I like the stairs and the castle pack, but felt the ones I chose will work well for my gaming group. I know when I buy one of the add-ons at full price I will kick my self for not robbing a bank last month. :)

Yeah, add-ons is a hard decision. I think it depends a lot on how many of the basic sets were bought. I do think the floor sets are invaluable, especially with the stair add on for multi-level rooms and the like.

The Dungeon dressings are great, but only if one wants that kind of stuff.

As for diagonal and curved walls, I think those are a lot better with the higher pledges, like 5 and up.

And barrels. I'm getting an absolute buttload of barrels. I know there are people getting more, but I'm still going to be very barrel rich.

Don't know why, but I suddenly flashed on a party in a room full of barrels playing "whack-a-mole" with some ROUSes...

I pledged for three painted sets and for four painted add-ons. (I really have no time or inclination to paint the terrain sets.)

The first two add-ons I thought were an easy choice. I knew I wanted the stairs and the floor pack. The multilevel capability and having less small floor tiles to deal with when laying out bigger rooms was really appealing.

The second two add-ons I juggled between three choices: diagonal walls, the Chamber of Sorrows, and the dungeon dressings pack. Eventually I figured I would just get way more use out of the diagonal walls (since I was only getting a few with a 3-set pledge) and the dungeon dressing pack. While I really like the Chamber of Sorrows, I knew it would be a set I would very rarely use because of its special paint scheme. If it had come in a standard paint scheme with a water pool, standard demon door, and the pillars from the stretch goals, it'd have been an easy choice to swap out the diagonal walls with the CoS.

My budget was best applied to obtain the best "starter" set I could afford from this kickstarter. Since I don't intend on building a vast dungeon (I typically deal with combat/special encounter areas using maps, the rest of the game is theater of the mind), three sets (more like 4-1/2 after stretch goals) and these four add-ons seem to provide me a good basic set I can use right away to good effect and expand on later when I can afford more.

I went in for:

2 unpainted COS: I like the utility of this addon, because you get more floors, more diagonal pieces, more walls, and a few unique bits.

1 unpainted curved: I think the diagonal and curved addons are underrated myself. Nearly every dungeon I built in map maker required an extra one of these.

1 unpainted floor: Great utility here with either more floor space or the ability to multilevel. Currently fighting acquisition disorder to pick up one more of these when pledge manager comes out.

2 painted dungeon accessory: I think the doors are the great value here. You can get most of the other bits (chests, barrels, etc) other places, but the doors are one of the first pieces I ran low on when building with map maker.

Castle wall pack didn't interest me in the slightest. Neither did the stairs pack given you get stairs as both a free addon and in the DD pack.

the best thing about barrels and other DD, is once they are on the map the players go nuts. at least my players do. If I put anything other then a monster on the map they go all CSI trying to figure out if it is trapped, locked, treasured, ect.

Some of my best found comedy in game is from dropping a DD in a hallway.

I limited myself to 4 ADD-ONs

I figured 2 Dungeon Dressing packs got me 2 sets of stairs and lots of fluffy nice bits. No Brainer.

1 Set of Floors Tiles because it would be easy to create custom larger modules with them. Also the downward stairs are nice pieces.

1 set of Castle Walls because who doesn't need Windows and Arrow Slits... I think of fortifications build into cavern walls.

If I sell some stuff before the DF crew does the what you want survey and its still possible to add more it would probably be one more of Castle Walls Set and a Chamber of Sorrows (Because its just way Cool).

Cant wait till October....

I too am at a loss of what add-ons to get. I have paid for 6.

I have five painted sets coming.

So right now I'm getting:

1 castle pack
2 dungeon dressing packs
1 floor pack

The remaining two slots are between a curved pack, a diagonal pack, and a stair pack. Thoughts? :-

Personally I'd rule out stairs since you're getting stairs in both of your two DD packs.

If it were me, I'd probably go one CoS and one rounded. CoS will give you some more floor space, a few diagonal walls, and some unique bits, but I'm assuming you're not going for CoS because you don't like the paint job, and since you selected painted sets, you probably don't want the unpainted version.

Since you took the castle pack, you may want to do more multileveling, in which case maybe you do want to consider stairs and another floor.

Then again, it seems like rounded walls would compliment the castle pack too.

I'm pledged at 3 sets and 4 addons. (3 sets seemed more than enough, and anymore wouldn't fit on a table)
I plan to get:

2 Dungeon dressings. I want enough furniture and neat doors that I'll never feel like I wanted more.

1 Floor pack. This will allow me to make huge rooms or multi-level terrain (plus I have all those stairs from the 2 DD packs).

1 Chamber of Sorrows. I want the extra diagonal pieces, the unique terrain like grates and pool, and the Pillars (which we didn't get enough of)!!!! I plan to take my dremel to ~6 of the COS wall pieces and make a few more windows/ arrow slits (I don't need 20+ window pieces from the castle addon plus Stephan posted a few video's of modifying these pieces and it looked pretty easy).

I hope this helps!

I'm purchasing 5 painted sets and have about 50 df sets already so this
review is coming from the perspective of someone that has a lot of DF and has been using it for 10 years or so. Hopefully I can give a newbie some insight into why some of these pieces are so good.

Diagonal walls and floors: This is a pretty good set even if you are getting quite a few with you main set because it adds to the variabilty of your building. And the most important reason is the half diagonal floor pieces were super rare before this set. They were only produced in a starter set and as singles a long time ago. I paid a lot of money to get the ones I have and they are so useful. Without them I wouldnt be impressed.

Curved walls and floors: A great set to add more variety and the floor pieces were NEVER made for a dungeons set. There were a few of the floor pieces in the Den of Evil Series but thats it. Being able to put the curved corners inside the dungeon is amazing and helps create interesting tactical situations.

Floor Pack: A must have to build decent two story dungeons. This is a great pack because this is a new version of the 4x6 tile and is ripe for some custom painting. It's also a lot easier to make large rooms with these pieces. You dont realize how fast you eat of floor pieces when start making a huge room. I'll be getting one of these.

Dungeon Dressing set: Doors Doors Doors ! Let's be honest, original DF doors sucked. They never swung right, they would fall off and they all looked the same. Now you have way more options for a jail or a treasure room door ect. I have plenty of tables and chairs but more stairs and barrels are always nice. You can never have enough barrels! More beds is also nice and the ever so usefull portcullis is hard to get in quantity. I'll be getting two sets.

Chamber of Sorrows: I have to say im not blown away by this set as it's mainly just a bunch of repaints but for someone just getting into DF it would make a great "boss room". I have a feeling the painted version will be sought after by collectors in the future.

Castle Wall pack: The windows are pretty awesome. Not only are they a NEW piece but they allow you to make buildings which could easily lead to you building small town. In my opionion you don't get enough free ones from the stretch rewards so purchasing this set is a must for me. Also if you don't have any of the arrow slit walls then you are missing out. Those arrow slits are so useful in setting up ambushes or kill spots in a dungeon. I love them! I'll be getting one of these sets.

Grand Stair Pack: OMFG thank you Stephan and Jeff!!! This is what I have been waiting for. First off you can NEVER have too many stairs. Next, the little stair bits are basicly new and only came out in a ROTA set but didnt give you that many. I have visions of a huge grand stair case or stair room going up two to three levels. Nothing makes a boss fight more interesting than dashing up and down stairs, chasing someone over multiple levels. This is the best add on, tied with the dungeon dressing pack IMHO. I'll be getting two sets.
