Not for the backsides. A 1" length of hallway would be required in order for the 3" assemblies in your proposed design to line up with Game Tiles layouts (which is entirely based on even-numbered measurements).

Here is an example of the problem:

Simply increasing the length of piece A would solve that in an expedient way by ensuring all assemblies are in multiples of 2".

Here is the fixed layout with the A pieces extended by an inch, as recommended by jackattack.

Thank you, ironregime.

And even though the "X" configuration is 4"x4", the passages only extend beyond the 2"x2" intersection by 1" in every direction, still requiring the extended A.

Even with the "dead spaces" outside the passages (which can be reclaimed using 3 or 4 Advanced Builder Set pieces) this is an very good design.

@Duncan:
When you referred to the old 10' passage do you mean the existing X-, T- and L-shaped passages from the Room and Passage sets?
If so, then those areas beyond the walls can be used with the Advanced Builder Set 2 which is the reason I bought a couple of those.
If not, then I got it completely wrong and apologize.

I love the elegance of Duncan's 3-piece corridor set (with JackAttack & IronRegime's mod to keep 2x2 alignment). Only 3 pieces and it's obvious what each piece does. A beginner won't get frustrated trying to use specialty tiles in place of general ones. My only concern is that the small "B" piece might be a bit "tippy" due to center of gravity, though wedged against other pieces it might be a non-issue.

As for narrow corridors, I suspect they could be done with a single new 2x2 piece plus one optional aesthetic "key":

So, standard 2x2 with walls on 2 sides within the tile. You can use standard pieces like corners and straight walls to form X and T junctions. The only negative over the pieces with angled edges is the non-seamless corners at junctions. A small piece that could be made to dress that up might look as follows:

(Note that I've rotated it to make its shape more obvious-- the long "leg" of the key would go within the interior of the dungeon, the short outer "leg" is just to stabilize it.) Such a "key" could also be used on the gaps in diagonal corridors and certain other places in "standard" designs. A variety pack of "keys" could probably be issued with different ornamentation to dress them up (thin column, torch holder, gargoyle, etc). I'm not sure how usable dwarvenite is when made that narrow (if indeed it can be cast that way) or whether there's anyone else bothered by the gaps. Anyway, the end result with both pieces might look like this:

I really like the latest idea for passages. I also like the idea of the wall clip. You could also make one for the diagonal piece missing etc. Just a thought.

That is pretty good duncan! but there is a problem....the diagonal pieces are too similar to the existing diagonal walls...in your design, these pieces would be "almost" the same, yours are slightly smaller, and this will cause confusion I am afraid...

Numfar, I like your corner system, Nice! Although perhaps I would make the shape "pointy" so as to continue the right angles if you know what I mean? the top could be a gargoyle type figure and the long part could be a column I suppose, or a slender saint or such as we see in the great cathedrals in France...the only drawback, if it is one, is that it goes above the height of the walls, something we usually try to avoid for the hinderance of the building of second levels?

Numfar, I like your thought about corner 'keys' except I would want to make sure they didnt encroach too much into the full (playable) squares, which are already cramped in the narrow halls. Also they remind me a little of the old fiddly bowties.

Dwarf, Yes I was referring to the old 10' passage and the existing X-, T- and L-shaped passages from the Room and Passage sets. Yes, the space beyond the walls can be used with the Advanced Builder Set 2. I should have put in a disclaimer.

The design we were discussing would be a modular design. It would actually duplicate the current passages once connected. The only real advantage over the current design is that it does not commit resources to the shapes in the set. Disclaimer: There are still single intersection pieces available outside of R&P sets and you can make intersections if you have other sets from Classic Dungeon sets like ABS 2.

I have two R&P sets. I have 8 L, 4 T, and 2 X intersections. I am restricted by the current shapes. If I had the modular design, I would have enough to make 9 X intersections if for some strange reason I wanted. More importantly, if I bought a newly designed passage set with say; six "A" connectors, three "B" connectors and four 2" passageways, I could make three L's or two T's or an X intersection. Disclaimer: I have no idea the correct ratio or quantity to put in a set. I also am not advocating this for this kickstart.

But this was all academic because....Stefan's design is better than mine!!! Read on...

Why is Stefan's design better than Duncan's design? Stefan's design is almost as modular and FAR more versatile.

I should explain what I presume Stefan's design is from our few seconds of video. I think he has a short passage but with one end 'notched' to fit into two intersection tile designs;
1- A "L-tile" with two walls and two open sides
2- A "T-tile" with one wall and three open sides

To make a L-intersection you use the L-tile and two notched passages. To make a T-intersection you use the T-tile and three notched passages. X-intersections are just four passages with a floor tile in the middle. Only a crazy, old wizard would dig a 50' of tunnel to make a passage a dead-end, so we don't need a dead-end.

So why is this better than my design? Because Stefan's notched passages can also be used as just plain, old short passages! My design is pretty much useless unless you are making an intersection. So with Stefan's design on the night you don't need a T-intersection, you now have 3 extra short passageways.

P.S. Please don't ask for drawings. Stefan already knows the design, just look at the video.

P.S.S. I still think a 2" narrow passageway would work with the Game Tile concept.

Actually, Duncan, your design can be streamlined even further and gain just as much versatility as Stefan's. Here's how.

The lengthened piece A is very similar to your basic passage piece C, except with a triangle sticking off it. We don't need such redundancy. Instead just make piece A be the triangular floor bit.

So you'd still have just 3 pieces, two of which are small triangles (one with a wall). These two smaller pieces are used for any/all corners and intersections. The third and more common piece would be the ever-useful 2" corridor.

That is very efficient use of dwarvenite.

Which would also require squaring off the edges of the B piece walls, or angling the wall edges of the C pieces.
